Oh FFS. If you're going to write a series that requires reading another series to know what's going on, add that information as a forward in the book so people aren't wondering wtf is going on.
And if you're going to pretend it's a standalone series please have someone who hasn't read/worked on the other series be a beta reader so they can tell you exactly what is not working if you're coming into the story cold.
