main character is a total piece of shit and i hate him. i hope something really bad happens to him.

this actually pisses me off. first, women do not do this. playing hard to get is not a thing. second, if a woman actually did do something like this, i hope she fully understands the repercussions--teaching a man that sometimes no DOESNT mean no and pursuing a woman who said no is okay, and thereby making the world a more dangerous place for the rest of us.

it occurs to me that those severed fingers were a kind of cruel gift. like, heres your friend. im reminded of the scene in blair witch where heather opens a small parcel left outside their tent and it contains what looks like josh's teeth. a taunt.

horrific, so much sadder and more awful than i ever could have imagined. and so important.

idk why or how it happened, but this wonderful book quickly derailed a couple hundred pages ago. its more than bizarre, and its all over the place.

i am just flying through this one. the plot is wild but i like it, especially since i can sit there and read it for hours.

this is written so viscerally. i keep actually shuddering.

i really love this book.

im enjoying this one very much. i find the story very interesting. im already sucked in. the best nick cutter book ive read so far.

dont appreciate that author seems to regard the constant sexual assault of women as though they are merely objects as some kind of joke. getting pissed off about it. not fucking funny.

theory: this thing is a boggart but much more evil and powerful. he always sees those finger things from his childhood.

im definitely wary af since it seems nick cutter tends to write a lot of animal torture and psychopathy. but i do want to say he really has a gift. horror doesnt easily disturb me, and his writing seems to disturb me more than stephen king ever has. whatever i feel about the animal stuff, he has a true gift.

im literally sobbing in my kitchen after the turtle scene. i dont think i can read this book anymore.

the scariest, most unsettling thing in this book is shelley. disgusting little fucking psychopath. ive never been more revolted by a character in my life.

total pages is incorrect. my copy has 503. ive spent most of the weekend reading this, and i love it. i never saw the movie and went into this book only knowing it was about an evil car or some shit. its very interesting. i was hoping for an origin story type deal, that id get to find out how she came to be what she is, but i might not be getting that. oh well.

what the cops did to jessie miskelley makes me furious. they KNOW he didnt fucking do it but they wanted damien, so they made sure he said what they wanted him to.

this should be required reading in schools. this book changes you. the sentence thats been floating around my head since i started this book is "all that i know is that i know nothing." i will always know nothing. nothing.

so far, still not seeing what the 1-star reviewers were talking about. i havent noticed a problem at all. im actually enjoying it.

i take it back, it gets more and more interesting. i still disapprove of the little bit of romance of course. and i still think some of the characters are kinda 1-dimensional. ah well. i will be reading more of dean koontz. this was written in 1982 i think, so.

im on the fence on this one. the writing is good of course, but the author is trying to force a romance between two people who incidentally seem very much to me like mary sues. also it turned out to be a creature feature. was this mans drunk while writing this orrr
