Wow Emma is not a grouch she's a jerk.

You don't eat things someone prepared for you without asking if it has things you are allergic to. That is not Regan's fault. It's Emma's responsibility. She's unnecessarily mean all the time

This is a slog. It's usually a joyful occasion to read one of these books, and we are actively avoiding it. Kinsey is being a hateful jerk with the portrayals of women, and the mystery isn't that fun. Idek if I'll buy the next one.

Wow we have a return to the misogyny of the first one. The portrayal of the women in this book is NASTY.

I really hate Finn. He's blind to everyone's needs but his own. He says his daughter comes first and they can't have a relationship. She says okay. Then he puts the moves on her. Without having conversations with her or his daughter.

I did not realize this was the same author as a book I abandoned a few weeks back. Although nowhere near as hateful as Charity's book, the misogyny is off the charts.

How can this man be a love interest when he holds women in such low regard?

I pretty much hate the MLI. He's so selfish, under the guise of sensitivity. He's sensitive to himself and gets way too many passes for his behavior.

I've barely started, but find myself extremely distracted by the world building backstory

She's spent years on her dissertation but doesn't have a research topic yet? Only finished her comps?

Author has a PhD so I guess he has insight? But I can't imagine not having a least a TOPIC at this point.

I've been really enjoying this book. But when a person says they don't want a relationship with you, DON'T KISS THEM.

That's sexual assault. That's gross. And totally lacking in respect. That is not how you treat someone you're supposed to care about. Blargh

Wow everyone is TOXIC. The mother is terrible to her daughter. The sheriff called her HYSTERICAL for saying she was available to identify the culprit. The daughter tells the sheriff things about the mother in front of her.

Wow I hate Adam. He is sexually objectifying Evie at the same time as he is purposefully antagonizing her because "it's fun". What an asshole.

The first book, which featured two women, dealt with the problems of being a lesbian in the regency era. The women had good relationships with each other and their families.

These men are sullen, rude, and hateful. Reading this book is not fun.

I really love the series set at the Morrissey, so I picked the set up. And it starts off with really hideous amounts of fat hatred.

For every two of her books I love, there's one that is toxic AF. Brighton is ridiculous, immature, and unlikeable. I think she's just supposed to be impulsive and free-spirited, but she's an asshole. An abusive asshole. The premise is good but the execution is severely lacking.

Our MC just changed the soon-to-be love interest's drink order from beer to Scotch. "I have a feeling you can handle something stronger than beer."

It's not okay to fake being queer to get yourself out of an awkward situation. People's sexuality and sexual identification are not there for you to try on for your convenience. That is really not okay. I don't know if that's going to be made apparent later in the book, but currently I'm uncomfortable with this book.

We just told a Black woman "I love your ringlets". Wow

Still in chapter 1. MC was referred to as Mark not Marla. This is a series that was published. In physical form. And no one caught that. Mon Dieu

How did this get published? And it's not even a first book. The writing is bad both functionally and content wise.

I already don't care. The MC is a hateful person. Her inner monologue about the man she loves is truly horrific.

This is STUNNING! More cohesive sisterhood, which I always thought was missing in the original. Lydia is a real person here and her sisters actually love her. The cover has awesome 60s Anne McCaffrey vibes and I'm loving it. Oh and Lydia's journal entries are amazing.
