Thanks to firstreads for my copy - I've been enjoying it from the first page. The first-person points of view - from Maria-Lucia, from Napoleon's sister Pauline, and from Paul, a Haitian devoted to the beautiful Pauline and close to Napoleon - is done perfectly, not at all jarring. Pauline is very bad and Maria-Lucia is very good, but believably so.
