I hesitated about whether to say I was reading this, because I realized as soon as I got it from the library that I would not be reading it from cover to cover. It's enjoyable to flip through and read sections of, and could be a fun garden companion to turn to throughout the year. It would probably be a worse book if I tried to sit down and read it like a novel.

Ran out of time with the library book and will have to resume when it's my turn again.

Halfway mark! It hit me last night that I'm not struggling with coming up with ideas. I'm struggling with sticking to the process for a very long project that is already mapped out. This book is still enjoyable - I'm just at a part of it that feels less immediately relevant.

I got an ARC from a giveaway and finally got around to starting it . . . And am already a third of the way through.

I have had this book on my to-read list for almost as long as it's been out and somehow never got around to it. I just received a copy of the third edition from a giveaway, and am excited by the expanded preface and afterward. Whipping Girl is one of those books that has had a profound impact on my life and culture without me ever having read it, and I'm excited to understand it a bit better.

Of all the books I'm reading, I didn't quite expect this to be the one that gobbled me up and kept me awake past my bedtime.

I've heard parts of this book quoted a lot-but most of it is still new to me. Easy to read. Interesting. Challenging, in that she expects you to show up and do work.

"Attributing these skills to angel penis seems rather pointless" *giggles helplessly* This is written like real people talk, which is occasionally hilarious. Like your sensible witchy friend. Context: nephilim.

It has turned out better than I thought it would! I've finished one version of the audiobook with a beautiful hardbound copy still to peruse. While their fortunes improved, I still have *feelings* about the amount of spousal abuse and think a possible moral is that the root of all their problems is women not having property rights.

There are not a lot of people in occult the field who write in a simple and conversational tone, like Mankey does. It takes me off guard sometimes, but I have a lot of respect for someone who can take academic papers and purple prose as source material and generate something very easy to read. I bought this book partially for the bibliography, which does not disappoint. 10 pages with commentary.

I guess I managed to avoid most spoilers for this very old book, because I continue to be surprised by things.

Some of these concepts are familiar to me, but the comprehensiveness and clarity is impressive. I feel like I only ever understood a fraction of what confirmation bias ia and how it works when I was studying psychology.

I think I listened to this too fast so I hesitate to say I'm done. Maybe I was also looking for something I haven't found, like how to sit still when my body needs rest.

Does the author think desexed designations are bad and we should still say mailman and stewardess, or is he just commenting that it's weird we switched to con artist? These days grifter is more common.

There's good and bad in this commentary. And a lot of references to the Bush (W?) administration. I like thinking about how language works, even when I don't agree.

I love the voice of the person who reads May's audiobooks so much. The book is also good! But I wish the person who reads the audiobooks had read more things I could listen to next.

A lot of reviewers don't like this book. It amuses me that I like this "prescriptivist" approach to English. Existing at the intersection of marketing and local government, it's a relief to have someone else point out how disturbing it is to hear "a program targeted at 11-13 year olds" when one could say it's for them instead.

I think I'm actually reading the 2nd edition, but Goodreads only has the 1st and 3rd that I can find. If anyone besides me watches what I'm reading, yes I'm still fixating on books about organizing. This one is quite useful.
