9. A senator receives an illegally pregnant woman who claims to carry his son's child. There's population control legislation in effect, so it's illegal to be pregnant without permission.

NYC is a city controlled by the black population, yet one teenager still feels angry at the whites. When one white tourist enters the city, this teenager tries to stab him but is stopped by police.

Veteran sea captain, awaken after cryosleep, is assigned to a modern vessel. When it gets into trouble after technical issues, the captain uses archaic methods to save the ship.

6. Swiss guy in a UN famine support camp has voices in his head. Hooks up with an Indian girl. A band of robbers invade his camp, but he manages to repel them. No mention of the year 2000.

5. A man's consciousness has been transported by future (year 2000) members of an underground movement that wants to reignite the human spirit after the world has become a Utopia.

Post-nuclear holocaust story about a female biologist who gets pregnant with a genetically modified or mutated human that is suitable for off-world, high-gravity life. Interesting premise of how far one wants to go to restore humanity after an apocalypse.

3. A Kenian wildlife protector struggles with a newer, less traditional reality. Hopes that one day mankind can restart his preferred way of life on a different planet.

2. About how a magnetic drive commercial transport ship gets into trouble in near space. Interesting technology but too much techno-jargon. Also the ship got sabotaged by an inspector and nearly caused the death of 750 people.

All these stories are about the year 2000, which was 35/30 years in the future at the time of writing. I suspect nothing from this book came to pass in 2000 nor has it now in 2025.
1. Slice of life story of a visitor to the US, which has become a utopian society with little pollution and also political stability. There is still a Communist threat, equal in power to the US, and people are "wedded to the way of war."
