Right off the bat I hit a spot of trouble. Heroine robs the rich to give to the poor. She is rich. Wouldn't it make more sense to forgo a dress or two and get the money that way?

I unexpectedly got an ARC but was hoarding this book. I was right to 'save' it because it might just spoil me for HR forever.

this book starts off really interestingly but it has fizzled... Tempting to skim.

The beginning is dynamite! Great hopes for this one.

If there’s one thing reading Elizabeth Hoyt books and watching Hulu’s Harlots taught me is that 18th century mores were less uptight than Regency/Victorian etc so this book is working really well for me and doesn’t feel anachronistic. Writing is top notch.

Wow, everyone is really woke in this book...
I'm also a bit jarred by the intense attraction between main characters who were supposedly just friends a few years back? I get it that Eli was secretly in love with Rose, but Rose had a fiancee and to her Eli was just a friend. Now she can barely control 'the landslide of lust' she feels for him (KB really likes her alliterations.)

I don't quite understand why this one is a favorite for so many people... I got to the point that hero and drunk heroine have sex and hero (?) now going through the inevitable "we must do the right thing." Perhaps the right thing was not having sex while the woman was clearly drunk?? getting close to a DNF here.

This book continues to be dynamite...

Heading for an Ok 3 stars when sex in a carriage half a minute after hero had been seriously injured caused me to reconsider that extra star. Only got worse from there. Thank goodness I snapped this one at 99 cents. Insipid characters, the usual overbearing parent, etc. Nothing really to recommend

Of two minds about this book -- somewhat entertaining, definitely flawed, but some new-ish and interesting themes. Likely to fall between 3 and 4 stars.

Uh-oh, least favorite cardboard romance character just made its appearance: lascivious and vengeful mistress. Enough already!!!

So far, a rare delight.

Oh boy. I can overlook pointless visit to ‘assignation house’ (seems to be sequel bait) but harder to overlook how heroine chooses to keep her deception and how hero conveniently lets go of a long-standing dream project...

Reading this after A Seditious Affair is like eating gruel after eating steak. Bland.

Considering DNF’ing this because it is so boring and clunky. I find GB’s attempts at humor crass in most instances. Also, something about her writing... She just had ‘to the manor born’ and that makes me wince.

What a great read so far. Very well written and characters are well developed.

I'm almost to the end of this book and unsure of how I feel about it. Hero and heroine meet an the irritatingly called Vega's Club, hero is an ass to heroine. Not an auspicious beginning. We've read a million heroes like Jack: Called too young to his duty toward family and title. Heroine is the best of the pair. Refreshingly, she lives by her wits and is somewhat of a math whiz. What follows is pretty predictable

I appreciate that there's no 'big mis' here and Cassandra stands by Sebastian... I have faith that the OW's obsession will be explained at some point, because right now it doesn't make a whole lot of sense and it is of the 'hell hath no fury' variety, which I particularly dislike since it reeks of misogyny. Still, a 3-star read on the Stella Riley scale and a 4-star on the Regular HR scale.

Not quite liking the Other Woman setup here but it's Stella Riley so I feel I'm in good hands. And spending time with Adrian is always worth it!

Also, it says something that a skinflint like myself didn't think twice about snapping Books 2 and 3 at regular prices to continue to read this series!!

The first half of this book knocked my socks off and I stayed up way, way too late yesterday because I simply couldn't stop reading it. The compromised-into-marriage scenario here is so deftly handled, it'll spoil me forever.

I have great hopes for this one as MOC's my favorite trope. And delightful to see Dominic and Rosalind again, plus parrot!!

Lovely writing and characters! Just what I needed after one amazing book and several ho-hums...

Sigh... Unappealing characters and clumsy handling of serious issues.

Right when the story was veering toward 'big mis' territory, we are back to rights.

Interesting as well that book is so far half told in flashbacks -- a first for Duran, I believe.
