Jan Rice is on page 99 of 176 of Anger, Fear, Domination: Dark Passions and the Power of Political Speech
Abandoned after 99 pages, out of 135 pages of text, the remainder being notes. We had been reading out loud, and the book did not hold up to having every word read: seemed to be becoming more and more abstract. Maybe if I get the chance, will breeze through to the end....

Jan Rice is starting Fools for Love: Stories
Well, now I just read a 2nd story from this story collection: "I Am Seventy-five." I was looking up the book and found it on Literary Hub. Even better than the one I read yesterday. Quite a writer; how come I never heard of her before? I laughed out loud even though I hate to read sitting at the computer (a desktop).
I'll read this book when I get the chance. Meanwhile--a gift for my sister! She'll love it.

I read the first (title) story, excerpted in The Atlantic, after being referred to it by a friend. It was great! Might get hold of the whole book.

Having finished Chapter 5, the first chapter in Part 2, I'm going to stop for now. Will say "Here I Halted Unfinished So Far" rather than "changed my mind," as a more positive spin. Have reached as far as the early/mid 1630s in the reign of Charles 1, & the arguments over religion and of parliament vs absolutism. I started reading as a trial & stopgap, & am just not that committed & desirous of finishing at present.

Saw this reviewed. My library just got it, and I've been checking it out. It is written experimentally: no paragraphs or chapters, just full steam ahead. May have some good writing. I'm not sure where it's going, and this isn't the time to find out.
If you read this and it's good, I'd like to know, and maybe later I can handle it.

Studying with a small group, and now we're going on to Part 3, the last part. (Lots of notes etc at end, which accounts for high page count.) This is very good. I had heard about the book but its significance and depth didn't hit me until I read an excerpt/adaptation. Not a fast read but worth it. Another one I probably wouldn't have undertaken without a group.

Well, it's fun. A series of short stories and novellas based on or inspired by real spies -- or spy stories. Well narrated on audio. Naturally, after some fast-moving details, I ordered a used copy for less than the price of a greeting card, i.e., very cheap. Yes, I know I could just use kindle. 👎

Not sure if I'll finish right now but very interesting. In Chap 1, learned the whole Guy Fawkes story. Who knew it involved religious conflict? and a plot to blow up king and parliament as well so as to permit the return to Catholicism by those who resented being forced to accept a new religion. This book was readily available in the library after I read about it in a review of the author's new one.

Finished a few days ago.
This is a novella, 64 pages long. Although it was released as a stand-alone book along with the movie of the same name, I read it in the collection of 4 novellas published under the title of "If It Bleeds." Thanks, Library! :)

Well, my copy doesn't have 304 pages. I'm just over halfway. The first chapter didn't capture me but could have been my fault -- as though I were daring the book to be likeable. After a while, though, it did. Hope to reach a time period where I can read it undistractedly, and then it won't take long. Book apparently already out in paperback in the UK; recently published in the US. Thanks, library!
