Absolutely wonderful. Completely captivating style, so patient, so stingy with the moments of outright horror. Great writing. And I love the idea of taking a morality tale so infused with religious elements and showing that it still works when grounded in pure psychological realism. One of my favorite recent novels.

Loved it. Feels to be the product of an earlier age. Enjoyed the voice. Blends styles ably. Humorous. I’ll be back for more.

Enjoyable. I was surprised by the diversity of his passions and inspired by his kindness and empathy and commitment to responsibility. There are times when it felt woo-y, but they didn’t overwhelm the rest or set the tone. Solid writing, funny and clever but rarely overdone.
