While the book is skillfully written and thoroughly detailed, something is lacking... Edward's narrative is so passive, he goes wherever his father sends him without question, making few decisions for himself. I expect Edward to occasionally display some churlish rebellion. In Jane Eyre, he likens Jane to elves and witches; but this version of Edward's memoir makes no references to his spiritual beliefs.
