Also re-reading. Cripes, so many typos! So many erroneous homophones! SO MANY! They did not spend an excessive amount on proof-reading for this book, to be sure. Or indeed anything.

Having a lovely re-read - but goddamnit, this dialogue is prehistoric. I keep expecting hero-geezer to call Charity a 'beautiful little fool!' at any moment. It was okay in the 70s, I suppose... Her prose in general is much more needlessly ornate than I remember.

Having a re-read, and despite the fact that I'll never be a T&T fan as such... it's really a jolly decent Christie. Some of her plots I can care about, and some I don't give a monkey's, but this is the former.

It's a lot of fun so far. He's probably a terrible person but the book's great. However the copyedit is absolutely appalling - couldn't they have shelled out enough to cut down the typos? Plus Young appears to be the only person alive with less of a grasp of the subjunctive than me. I mean, he doesn't just not apply it where it's relevant. He throws it in where it clearly isn't! Sweet Jesus, don't do that!

Hard work so far, a bit slow. It ain't no Aerodynamics of Pork. I prefer his earlier, funnier family sagas.

So many amazing memoirs, just check out any GR list: my fiction reading in future is going to be pruned back and strictly rationed. I'd sooner hear a real person's real story.
