so far this is not the best Tanith Lee ever, but even not on top form there are some intriguing tales.

'With her blond, curly hair and playful blue eyes, Raven exuded a warm effervescence that melted most people into a puddle of bashful smiles and adoration.' Ugh. This sugary shit is nauseating.

oh good God. four pages in, and this 'professional editor' demonstrates she doesn't know the difference between 'taught' and 'taut'.

so good, and I can't remember the last time I read a cookbook all the way through, line by line. Maybe a couple of Moosewoods, nothing else. dear God, there should be a trigger warning like IT'S GONNA MAKE YOU SO HUNGRY!, though.

Also re-reading. Cripes, so many typos! So many erroneous homophones! SO MANY! They did not spend an excessive amount on proof-reading for this book, to be sure. Or indeed anything.

Alex Ankarr is finished with Madam, Will You Talk?
Having a lovely re-read - but goddamnit, this dialogue is prehistoric. I keep expecting hero-geezer to call Charity a 'beautiful little fool!' at any moment. It was okay in the 70s, I suppose... Her prose in general is much more needlessly ornate than I remember.

Having a re-read, and despite the fact that I'll never be a T&T fan as such... it's really a jolly decent Christie. Some of her plots I can care about, and some I don't give a monkey's, but this is the former.

hENRY IV! henry IV! ONLY my fave Shakespeare ever, the brutality and cynicism tossed out there with perfect honesty, the 'romance' a cynical dance of diplomacy, self-interest and threat. gotta love this.

Terrible sex scene on p159. Omg, I would enter a convent sooner than ever endure a tupping as coy and twee and precious as that one. Jeezy. I mean, Briggsy! JEEZ WOMAN!! When she's on form she can't be beat. And when she's bad she's flippin' terrible.

It's a lot of fun so far. He's probably a terrible person but the book's great. However the copyedit is absolutely appalling - couldn't they have shelled out enough to cut down the typos? Plus Young appears to be the only person alive with less of a grasp of the subjunctive than me. I mean, he doesn't just not apply it where it's relevant. He throws it in where it clearly isn't! Sweet Jesus, don't do that!

So many amazing memoirs, just check out any GR list: my fiction reading in future is going to be pruned back and strictly rationed. I'd sooner hear a real person's real story.

Damn, I only just realised that I read a tiny little article about Craig Kielburger like, 10 or 15 years ago, was so inspired I clipped the article and have kept it ever since. What a human being, what a mensch. An all-around rockin' human being. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...
