A tense thriller that is an gripping first adventure for Hercule Poirot that is also a bottle story that makes you feel like the walls are slowly closing in as a murderer is on the loose.

There is greater character development in Red Queen than in Alice. We are also provided with a few characters like Pen who have greater emotional depth. Overall, the Red Queen is a page turner.

Golding’s allegory of the Second World War is skillfully played out on an island among a group of adolescent survivors of a plane crash. It is very compelling to read how the dominant boys in the group gradually abandon the desire to adhere to the Conventions of society in favor of feeling the of more primal urges. The ending will leave you reeling as you consider the truth of human nature.

It was an excellent story that was moved along by abundance of twists and turns. Can't wait to revisit
these characters again.
