Will I ever finish this? No one knows.....

Holy shit. This is as bad as I predicted. I've read fan fiction more well written. This is like reading a teenage girl's trauma dump with all the over exaggerated drama and implausible scenarios that you'd expect.

I just want to know how this author is going to attempt to make this scenario probable. Am I reading to troll and tear it apart? Yep.

I'm struggling through this one. I'm tired of the lazy world building by the author. If you want a fantasy world, then actually build said fantasy world. But if you want to use Mexico and Mexican culture, don't simply rename it and say it's original and creative license. I can't be the only one who thinks this, surely.

Oh god. This did the thing where it took the predictable turn and became neither creepy nor interesting. 😞

Classic bad writing: switching between points of view (limited omniscient) between random paragraphs. This is also a very modern take on a regency romance. The next 300 pages should be painful.

"It turns out you don't automatically get a happy ending just because you're the hero of the story."

I am having issues with this book. Generational starship in space for 300+ years. Okay. Civilization must be advanced, right? But somehow this society turned upside down and went back to having blacks as slaves. And, for whatever reason, this starship even had plantation fields. There's lanterns (isn't fire in space a no-no?). They've brought entire archives of physical books. All this makes no sense to be in space.

The back says it's supposed to be a smart comedy so I was imagining something more along the lines of Good Omens. My hopes were too high. This books is a slog with unlikable characters, word play that is more along the maturity level of a 14 year old boy, and blatant jabs at well known high fantasy like The Hobbit. I hate quitting, but I'm not sure I'll make it through this cringy book.

I think I may like this better than the Kate Daniels series.

Love it so far.

I'm pretty bored...

Control is much more likable than the character of the last book.

Hard to get into at first, mostly due to an unsympathetic main character, it gets better as the creepiness escalates.
