Feels like a mix between Lolita and Frankenstein

He brings up the lynchings in GA and says the black folk have “ancient memories.” Bro.

I find the plight of the would-be housewife unrealistic (especially in GA) and the awe this European stranger has for an ordinary southern town in America ridiculous. None of these townies are believable bc they are all way too nice, even factoring in “Southern hospitality.”

The cafe is clearly based on Fountain City Coffee in Columbus, and I’m very gratified by my catch despite the fact that it’s not very subtle

The male characters are described with almost mythological reverence, whereas so far the *TWO* female characters in the book are a rich, successful, educated accountant who is miserable bc she wants to be housewife and a shrewish secretary whose position is described as a “guard tower.”

I really dislike how she acts morally superior to the Head of School for accepting her bribe? Also that she is so snobbish about the other kids in the school but is willing to buy her kid’s way out of trouble

I’m so confused Owen’s body is two years older but his mind is like 35??? He was 26 when he died and he’s been dead for 9 years??? And Liz is 15???? Hello??
