“We hear most about sexist violence in public discourses about rape and abuse.

*But most common forms of patriarchal violence take place in the home between patriarchal parents and children* "

Isha is reading My Brilliant Friend (The Neapolitan Novels, #1)
Gorgeous! Read slowly. Ferrante understands childhood, girlhood, the loneliness of growing up, masculine violence, general feeling of competing in school, the fear of being left behind and how it changes you, and the desire to break away into a new world while keeping in step with your friends, all at once and writes with an ease, writes immersively, writes cinematically.

So far getting educated about attachment styles (secure, anxious, avoidant, fearful) and diagnosing my past relationships.

Seventy pages in, after reading about various characters, with two graphic incidents of gender and caste based sexual violence, exactly when does this book start to become good?

"the feminine could not be theorized in terms of a determinate relation between the masculine and the feminine within any given discourse, for discourse is not a relevant notion here. Even in their variety, discourses constitute so many modalities of phallogocentric language."

You have nothing to lose but your earrings he stole anyway!

MAKE. A. SCEENEE.

(For bravo Poverella who beat her man to pulp after roaming through the streets of Turin feverishly for days end with no closure for her abandonment in sight, for her letters that went cruelly unanswered, for the children she forgot to feed, for the telephone bills she forgot to pay, for the last laugh)

reading slowly. deeply phenomenological book. heart goes out for maya angelou and makes one more curious about her time and age in stamps. love her momma (grandmother). i am reading the think hardbound book which has all her series of memoirs so difficult to carry around and read.

Mast! loved reading the first chapter and had the best morning with lots of serotonin. When we finally get to understand the things that mortify our being, we gain some semblance of sanity. but only some of it. .I loved this book as it took me through the various theories of anxiety. smooth, precisive writing for those who want to learn how to write.

Super interesting to read. Spell binding. Smart writing. Brings out the ugliness of delhi, but also leaves you deeply unsettled. Don't have the heart to pick the book again, probably later when my mental health permits. bilkul riks nahi lene ka.
