Hello, plot twist! 😳 This one is such an adventure and I'm here for it.

I understand this book is 11 years old, but at the same time, I have a hard time forgiving a gay romance its repeated use of borderline slur language ("ladyboy") and writing an offended reaction by the narrator when Scarlet admits that she thought he might be asexual. As an asexual person, it's hurtful to read, "It was one thing to be taunted about being gay, but to be asexual was too much of an insult."

This is a DNF for me. I can't stand the ghost's cruelty or manipulation, the characters are two-dimensional, the dialogue is stilted, the ghost's machinations are literally the plot device moving the entire thing, she could just wrap up the entire story in a chapter or two and it would be just as good as the trash fire that is (probably) the full 328 pages. I'm so upset that this actually won the Lambda Award in 2020

I can't faceroll or button mash my keyboard on my phone because of freaking smart keys, which is irritating because it seems to only possible way to come anywhere close to adequately expressing how exquisitely TJ Klune ruins me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 😭😭😭😭 Damn you, TJ, I am still awake at nearly 2 am because I can't stop reading!!! 😭❤️😭❤️😂🙈

Ugh, Maddox is a hypocritical, obsessive, boundary-ignoring child and he'd better grow up before I start feeling like Roscoe is getting into an emotionally abusive relationship. 😐

I started this one as an audiobook. Don't, if you don't have to. Daniel Henning would be awesome for a book *maybe* like Simon and the Homo Sapiens Agenda, or some fluffy LGBTQIA+ YA book, but he's not the narrator for a book classified as a thriller that deals with the darkness of a forced conversion "therapy" camp, even if is YA. Switching to the ebook improved the book immensely.
