Cloud-forests are among the most biodiverse habitats in the world. Although they account for less than half of 1 percent of the earth’s land surface, they are home to around 15 percent of known species. A cloud-forest can contain around four hundred species of tree in a single hectare; almost half as many as the number of native tree species found across the entirety of the contiguous United States.

The ultimate thing we cannot control is…life. The ultimate addiction is to our own capacity to control…uncertainty, impermanence, and powerlessness-lie at the heart of this collective…moment. We cannot know (uncertainty) or control (powerlessness) our world, because it is inherently relational and in flux (impermanence)…it is when we can be at ease with uncertainty…accept powerlessness, we become free.

The bible…is the concentrated residue of many generations of indigenous wisdom, laid down in the genres of story, poetry, law, proverb, and prophecy, augmented by gospel and epistle…the bible has been exploited to make certain people a lot of money and bestow upon them a lot of power to do a lot of harm.

…Jesus’ words about the meek inheriting the Earth…Then, when arrogant civilizations self-destruct and die, the meek-those with indigenous wisdom, those with a wise and humble spirit, those who pursue deep communal well-being rather than shallow individual happiness-will have their opportunity to live by a different vision, different values, a different story.

When our prime motive is love, a different logic comes into play. We find courage and confidence, not in the likelihood of a good outcome, but in our commitment to love.
