Got bogged down. The section about the dueling clubs at Heidelberg was interesting, but my modern brain had a hard time understanding 19th century satire.

In my younger days I read this novel, and Herbert's sequels, many times. Reading it now after a couple decades, and having seen three screen adaptations, I'm more amazed than ever about the intricate blend of ecology, religion, politics, and sheer writng ability on display. I still found new details and undercurrents that kept me up late to see what came next, in spite of being very familiar with the story.
