First read of 2026 💙 I am positively enchanted, entertained, and cannot put this down

Why does Helena have to have heart issues? 😭 Literally anything but that. Poor Kaine has to watch ANOTHER woman he loves suffer and dwindle 🥺☹️😢

Sobbing at the thought that Kaine had just found Helena passed out next to the very cage that his mother was tortured in. My heart hurts seeing the parallel 💔

I'm catatonic, shaking, traumatized, troubled, pensive. How is it possible that words on a page can evoke such a strong visceral emotional reaction? This book is witchcraft

Alright, the first tears were shed. Helena saying goodbye to Luc and officially severing ties as a way to save/choose him was poetic genius. My heart breaks for them. We didn't get to see their happy friendship, but the end of it, which makes it all so gut wrenching.

Also, I'm really enjoying reading things through Helena's POV. Love a cunning, intelligent, and clever FMC

IM UNWELL.
As a curly girl myself I find the hair touching scene particularly beautiful. But as an aside, to go from "You're like a rose in the graveyard" and follow it with a torture scene is diabolical

I think I have a love/hate relationship with this series. It required making 77% progress for ANYthing important to happen, and that's when things started getting 🤌, but unfortunately now the series is almost over! You need the patience of a celestial fleet to enjoy the small payoff that this book provides

515 pages in and FINALLY something interesting happens!

I hate that Slade always knew they were pair bonded/mates. If he didn't know, would he have even looked her way? Would he have still treated her with respect and acted as her therapist in books 1/2? Was he only invested in her maturation and development because they were mates? Ughhh

Although there are a few despairing moments leading up to and during the war scenes, the main cast has some pretty THICK plot armor. Also, there was more build-up and anticipation for the battle at Fifth Kingdom than the actual battling, and unfortunately we got it from Rissa's POV 😒

- I don't hate Malina anymore! I hated her so much up until this book. What a well done redemption arc
- I don't really care for Auren's POV anymore. Whatever she does in the fae realm is none of my concern. (Open to changing my mind on this though!)
- The way Malina and Dommik's subplot is CARRYING this book. Without them, I'd have DNF'd by now tbh

Thoughts so far:
1. I ❤️ Elm omfg.
2. I didn't know there were so many tree names. Laburnum is my fave, it has a cool ring to it.
3. I'm over the riddles at this point.
4. If we lose Jespyr to the mist, we ride at dawn.

I'm dead

This part is so aggravating! First, the FMC felt that the Cartaxus vax reveal was a violation yet she still went through with the procedure! Second, and this one is leaving me screaming internally, she STAYED with an obvious mind-controlled Dax after he just SHOT her AND right after she just concluded that the vax must have been behind the wrath-like symptoms in the stadium outside. Like, what?! Lol are you dumb!?

This is SO ENTERTAINING.
