So far, so good! I love how the story goes between "then" and "now." The granddaughters are learning not only how their grandmother grew up, but why she is who she is.

Started. Restarted. And started again. Somehow I feel it is necessary for the history I study. But Lawd this book is dense!

Only just finished the introduction. The comparison between President Obama's 8 years and Reconstruction, with Trump and Jim Crow is sobering at best if not horrifying. I'm ready to dig in.

I am reading this book for a Modern American History class. It is pretty tough to read how, as an African American, you were the object of such vile multi-generational hatred - based on ignorance of the history of this country ... including when Natives lived and thrived here.
