Karen is 56% done with The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi (Amina al-Sirafi, #1)
Not my usual genre & yet something drew me to this one. Really great…except so many words aren’t accessible w/ the Kindle definition feature.

Not my usual genre. The book grabbed me on the One San Diego page.

So good! I listened to the NPR This American Life, episode 492 a while ago. At a recent SD Book Divas white elephant someone got this book & I quickly got thru Libby. Reading the book & re-listening the to NPR episode has me noticing more nuances as part of this story than ever before. I'm not done w/ the book yet but as I read I understand more & more why the new Dr. Glimmer became so focused on this case.

50% through & already need to recommend this goes on your hold list. Given how great it is, it's on hold. Funny, quirky characters w/ a strong equality theme from different characters [I'm a chemist not a woman chemist] & whether one is/not a parent, a plot that reasonates - can one have it all in their personal AND professional life? Or are the things that have to give in one area, though well worth the benefits?

I really liked Stanley Tucci's Tasting Italy. So far this book I'm enjoying the book almost as must - I like seeing the food & regions of Italy on the show. He weaves his family recipes & traditions and memories of food and restaurants in his own life.

I'm going back & forth btw reading & listening. Can't agree more w/ the value of sleep. Transforming my sleep habits is proving really really hard.

Karen is starting The Ten Thousand Doors of January
I'm about 40% through this book and still waiting for something to happen. I like the writing and appreciate a story that builds anticipation of what's going to happen. Still, the build up is now dragging for me.

Karen is starting Little Beach Street Bakery
A light read w/ a small town in England, a woman wanting to start over & like her wounds. The right book at the right time! Except she's a baker w/ exceptional descriptions of bread & I keep wanting carbs!!

Karen is starting Growing Up Aboriginal in Australia
I'm enjoying learning about each author's individual experience and that each author writes differently. Each chapter is a different story so I'm reading sometimes a few stories at a time, sometimes one. There are a lot of references I think I'd understand if I grew up in Australia that I end up googling. I'm learning a lot! So far definitely recommend.

Karen is starting When We Were Vikings
As much as I love the sentiment about to understand a person, walk a mile in their shoes, I know as much as I try from my own experiences I'll only get so far. Zelda, a person with FAS narrates w/ her feelings, observations & her experiences is one reason I love books like this. Like Dave King's The Ha-Ha, sometime shard to read. Her responses, often matter-of-fact, were very timely at this point in my life.

Out of My Mind is really good. Sad & heave but also uplifting. I'm finding I need to read this one slower than usual. So far really good.

Karen is on page 75 of 238 of Me and White Supremacy: Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor
Is a book that is taking me more time than usual to read. I read, I reflect, I read, I reflect. Keep having my library loan expire then need to renew. Is also a book I often find myself wanting to talk about how I feel about what I just read.
