People are expecting me to be social today rather than finish this and I'm not sold on that. Its a slow read, I have to put it down regularly, but I pick it up again very quickly.

Basically I'm finished but can't work out what to say right now and am in a rush today.

Another story down, this time Stephen Poore's

Had to put down the book for various reasons and have found there to be a bit of a mid-book quagmire when I pick it up. Still enjoying it though.

Yes I really am reading all these books. Yes I did get through a 100 pages in the brief time in the shop waiting for all to go to the pub and on the train home. Verrry promising start.

Once again, I've lost a book I was reading... maybe ebooks are the future after all.

Two stories in, giving each one time to settle. Funny how short stories can give you a different perspective on authors sometimes.

Can't consume too much of this at a time. Great for bursts but starts to get wearing.

Its like Le Carre without the long character sketches (my favourite part) and not quite as strong a mystery. So... still quite good ye ken, but... well, still time. Still think its warming up... still...

Being a wise monkey, I skipped most of the scenes beyond the wall/involving the Captal and the result is I'm motoring along having great fun.

Wanted something a bit more familiar than the City of Stairs.

Mostly enjoying it. Problem is the Captal hasn't been pushed down a set of stairs, broken his neck, and never been mentioned again. Some villains you love to hate. Some villains you just hate. You don't want anything to do with and they poison everything around them their boring self-aggrandising low grade unpleasantness. Please get him off my pages.

Started in on this. Not hooked yet. Possibly due to the use of present tense aka the authorial choice I will never understand. Maybe because you could have replaced the main character with a robot and no one would have noticed. Still, its all set up very nicely.

Not sure why I'm bothering to update in a way, this'll be done in a couple of hours. It slips down nice and easy. That said - I was stone cold certain this was heading for 5 stars after the first 30-40 pages but am now thinking this'll be a 4 because it's all a bit straight by the rules and the rules aren't the most attractive. We'll see. Very much doubt it falls below 4 though.

Same old same old. Love the prose and the atmosphere but can't get into it. There's no hook as to why I care about the detective investigating this.

Enjoying it but my attention is beginning to wander a little. I keep getting interrupted with this book - its cursed. Think I'm gonna switch to a re-read of a fairly undemanding favourite for a bit.

I read a few pages, get really impressed by the prose and the atmosphere, then put it down unhooked. Then again. And again. Hopefully at some point it will take hold.

Interesting world, interesting characters, not a lot happening...

Somehow I got the impression this was first in the series. Clearly not. Reads well enough though, as all books in the middle of a series should. Think something might be about to happen...

Lost the bloody thing just as I was getting into it. Annoying. Sure it will resurface soon.

Interesting read. Every time I think I'm coming to a lull or getting dissatisfied, something cool happens. Curious to see how it all resolves, which is always a good sign.
