Crazy huge epic

murakami: like reading someone's dream.

This book is blowing my mind. I had no idea! So so cool.

I'm totally enthralled. This is the best book I've ever read about feminity and the many facets of being a woman.

On page 260 and so far the story is interesting but I'm very surprised it was long listed for the Booker since the style and language, which is what the booker usually acknowledges, is unremarkable and More in line with simply and intelligent sci-fi novel, which is what this appears to be, rather than what I would call literature

Murakami is wild. This book sure is a trip. What's going on? Who knows. But it's fun

Just finished book 2 of 3. Lookslike the first 2 books are about 170 pages each, while the 3rd is about 340, so about double the first two, and it looks like it itself have chapters, which is different.
I can see why people have been divisive on this novel - it is not straightforward. But unless the 3rd book crashes and burns, it is actually quite lovely. I think patient and intelligent readers will be rewarded.

Such polarized reviews- i was ready to hate this. But it's intriguing and she can certainly write. Whether it holds up overall is yet to be seen. Seems like the inspiration from Cloud Atlas is huge though - wonder how she responds to that? Anyway hasn't lost me yet!

so this hyper advanced robot of the future doesn't understand how the fucking sun works? sorry but its hard for my suspension of disbelief here...

Really adored this at first but it is feeling somewhat bloated. Some books are too short at 550 pages, some too long. I notice I'm skimming. I'll have to think about what exactly is not working well - but it feels jumbled and has some parts that feel extraneous and like they're jutting out from what ought to be a more fluid novel.

This book is so good at this point that I'm worried it cannot possibly keep it up through the second half. But it's fabulous. A real book for book lovers and writers. She's taking a risk with form, but it's working quite well.

I have recommended the Tale for the Time Being to pretty much anyone I've ever recommended a book to, and not once has someone not enjoyed it. So I'm totally stoked about this one - bought the hardcover the moment I saw it on the shelf. So far it is totally delightful.

I don't think I can trudge through it

Just tobe clear- I'm reading this under duress. My gf is a big NS fan and I promised her I'd finally try one despite my severe and old bias towards him. She is reading Murakami so fine, I'll try to read this with an open mind.

This is some of the best writing ever. Glad to read it again with more adult eyes.
