this is, sadly, one of those "dark academia" books that try too hard on the dark aesthetics and neglect the academic part

what I like:
- how the heavy/sensitive topics are handled so far
- cultural ref
- presenting parents + insights on their emotions

what I dislike:
- adina
- too many dramas revolving around romance/sex, can we go back to the hovering between being a child and an adult, feeling left behind or out of place, navigating the new normal, etc

It took me a while to get into this book; it’s heavy and depressing and uplifting at the same time. There are so many beautiful aspects and ugly issues that stir up all kinds of emotions (aka I’m a mess send help).

- I was about to throw something when I saw the author’s ig post
- “incompetent mc + the story of failure”...that explained so much
- didn’t make the book less infuriating *throws things*
- imagine not loving Sanjing, can’t relate
- the transitions between scenes feel choppy, like sequences of actions instead of a flowing story

- 2022 first read (give the book another try actually)
- love the writing style and the atmosphere; Erin Morgenstern + a magical library with cats = perfection
- the reading slump it gave me last time though, a more solid main plot and faster pace would be nice

- creepy island/forest magic + matriarchal family with victorian-ish vibes, you had me
- the three povs balance and compliment each other so well. They are all unique but I doubt they’ll be completed without one another.
- the romance is good and for once not ruining the story. Let me weep in joy.

I can’t give this book five stars. It deserves a whole galaxy.

- detailed witchcraft with whimsical, beautiful writing
- soft, melancholic atmosphere and characters’ relationships
- “his best part”

One of the most addictive books I’ve read this year! It’s heavier than I expected but so, so beautiful.

I swear I felt my heart ripped out.

- This book invented a whole new level of dream libraries.
- Nathaniel reminds me of Howl (from Howl’s Moving Castle) but with more sass and a different coping mechanism. I love him.
- Sir Fluffington the fluffy demon cat

I’m weak for books with historical aspect but this seriously needs more magic

I’m enjoying classics and that’s one of the new 7 wonders of my life

This book is going to be the only thing I talk about for the rest of the year.

It’s been a while since I was this hooked by ya fantasy. I’m feeling so blessed *hugs the book*

Please don’t ruin it by turning into a love-triangle.

Almost DNF this one
- info-dump, info-dump everywhere
- a complex character that deserved his own development suddenly became an asshat just for the main character to prove her point

but
- I want to know more about Val, not the one-dimensional version of her in Veronyka’s head
- SEV. My new son is a disaster cinnamon roll with occasional gay panics

The romance’s giving me mixed feelings but I’m enjoying this more than I thought I would.

This book is a dreamy fairytale with edges, soft boys and ice cream.

I’m torn:
- the world-building and mysteries can take my body, heart and soul
- it’s half a book and nothing actually happened

The only things I like so far:
- the writing
- do it for science ™
- Slytherin vibes

Guess this book just isn’t for me.
