- So it turns out I was reading book 6 instead of book 5! Haven’t made that mistake in a while whoops!

- I thought I would have to wait ages to read this so I’m quite surprised to see it on Hoopla already!
- As much as I hate to see a good story end, I equally hate to see a good story drag on. So I hope this ends here with vol 3 and we get a good conclusion and answer to the overarching mystery…

- I don’t know why I’m reading this again considering I remember the plot pretty well, but I was watching Rosemary’s Baby (tv show) last month and then got a craving for the whole ominous reveal part, so I’m looking forward to that.
- I don’t remember disliking Alexis this much last time I read it but she’s a bit awful now that she’s got some popularity and a boyfriend. I don’t think it suits her.

- Back on this book and it’s so engaging and easy to get sucked in. That’s vampires for you, eh👀 (haha)
- It’s poetic and shocking that her name is not Ashley June. The fact that Gene named her that because he reminds her of how he felt when he saw the ashes of their burnt books in the June sun is so tragically beautiful.
- I needn’t have worried in my last update, Gene does feel bad for the Dome humans.

- “Three o’clock, and all’s well.” I read this at midnight (not 3 o’clock) but all is definitely not well in the messed up life of Jersey Hatch.
- So we’ve managed to narrow the list down to: 1. felt guilty, 2. life sucking, or 3. ex-girlfriend. Funnily enough all 3 could technically be one and the same. I I feel like it’s number 3 though, maybe she cheated on him with his best friend…

- Light vs dark, duh, the light is going to win. Our guy is majorly overpowered anyway, so it’s a given.
- When is the protagonist and the love interest finally going to give in? Although I’m not sure if I would like it as much as the romantic tension because half of the fun is the journey to get there.
- I feel bad for the protagonist about the creepy guy, but also she did it to herself🤦🏻‍♀️

- Talk about majorly overpowered! These guys can basically do anything as long as you can find a tenuous link to light.
- Oh my gosh, it’s light vs dark. It’s so funny how childish that is for a teen book.
- The banter is just bad. They don’t bounce off of each other, it’s just like constant unattractive bickering despite how many times they insist the love interest is hawt as anything. Just smooch already!

- It amuses me how Katy is constantly being insulted by everyone yet she can’t understand why. I know a reveal is coming but I sort of don’t want it to because the build up is good.
- Daemon is a fantastic gaslighter. I love that Katy refuses to fall for it though.
- A third sibling who disappeared is quite a twist! My guess is he’s not dead but that’s way too obvious. Maybe he will return in a later book…

- It’s so surprising that I recognised the book described in the protagonist’s blog as Touch by Jus Accardo considering I barely read much of that book. But that’s definitely the right book because the description matches and it was published by the same publisher at the same time as this book.
- The dialogue is so unbelievable cringy. I just can’t understand how this is an author who is so highly rated.

Thoughts after reading chapter 1:
- I just can’t get behind an age gap romance let alone one where he was like a father figure to her. He literally took care of her like a father so the fact that she a crush on him is really really weird and probably misplaced emotions. Thankfully it seems to be just one way right now.
- The art is a little clunky and the translation is a little messed up more than it normally is.

- The end is so close I can feel it. COME ON, I CAN DO THIS.
- This book has been haunting me for over a year and at this point it’s not even worth it to DNF it. I have to finish this!
- The next scene is a dance and you just know they’re going to find each other in the crowd and kiss and make up and it’ll all end happily ever after ugh can this be over now please please please🤦🏻‍♀️

Thoughts after reading chapters 1&2:
- I was definitely down for memory loss, but split personality disorder seems too far fetched for me. I know a it’s real thing, but also like is it?
- The girl’s portrayal is very confusing and not at all consistent although that may be the point. Still, it’s strange.
- “We’ll just let him think it’s multiple personalities” well, girl, is it not??

Thoughts after reading chapter 1:
- Rat is cool! He could’ve had an edgier name though.
- Safu is pretty crazy and forward. Had me blushing looking around my empty room like hope no one saw that haha.
- For a second I thought that guy was killed because he was doubting the city. That would’ve been so cool. Still, it’s kind of ominous and I’m so intrigued to see where it goes…

Thoughts after reading chapter 2:
- It’s nice to know my instincts about the teacher were right: he is a bad teacher!
- I understand that as a kid meeting a deaf person can lead to curiosity which can manifest as bullying, but it was immensely irresponsible of the teacher to foster those thoughts in the boy’s mind. As an adult he has failed the kids, let alone failing all of the students as a teacher. Terrible!

Thoughts after reading chapter 1:
- It’s been so long since I watched the movie that I don’t remember seeing the boy’s sister in the movie at all.
- I’m sorry but worst teacher ever. He sees a student acting rude to a vulnerable deaf student and he decides to seat the student with the bully tendencies right behind the vulnerable student. Like that isn’t a recipe for disaster!🤦🏻‍♀️

- Sadly I never finished this in time for the end of September so I’m not feeling it anymore. Onto the DNF pile it goes!

- My 7th read for the September MG Reading Challenge!
- Contrary to what is being portrayed, I don’t think Max actually hates Duncan. I think his hateful comments and narrative are misplaced anger from feeling like his mum doesn’t treat him equally to Duncan, projected insecurity from Duncan acting strangely in public, and prolonged grief and anger from the loss/replacement of his dead dad by the new boyfriend.

- I’m sorry I ever doubted you, young Alice. When she screamed “I make the path!” I literally got shivers. That’s a total boss moment and she makes her own destiny!
- Everyone is totally bonkers, but I kind of love it! The expressions are so expressive and heightened, it feels very faithful to the original book.

- A few weeks ago I read some more of this whilst on a plane and I had no other way to suffer… and I DIDN’T HATE IT!
- Shockingly, the plot improved at the last minute. It didn’t go the cliche way I expected, but it was really crazy and then good to see.
- Now I’m so so close to the ending so once my MG reading challenge is over I really hope I finish this in October!

- I am not enjoying this and I would just like it to be over.
- Primer thinks she’s God’s gift to mankind whilst she’s a hot mess and completely and utterly useless. I’ve not seen her win a single fight yet but I know they’re going to make her come and save the day at the end somehow.
- Why has the art randomly changed? And not for the better. I really want this to end now!

- “To respect a land is to respect those who are of the land, and we must respect the land if we are to live on it.” There has never been a more apt time to post this given a certain country’s actions right now.
- They didn’t need to make her NAKED to reveal she’s a girl!
- “Girl, boy, or dancing bear, you’re the finest page—the finest squire-to-be at court.” How lovely!

- “I swear on my honor as a gentleman. You’d better swear on something else since you don’t have any.”
- Alanna is so sweet worrying about whether she’s a bully for fighting her bully. She’s a good kid.
- That letter almost tripped her up but she managed to recover quickly. She’s smart and tough!

- Alanna is so frikking pretty. The art in general is awesome. I’m kinda bummed her hair is like a modern style when the hair on the original book covers is more like an olden style, sort of a bowl cut which she totally rocks too. But I guess this works.
- Alan is not as cool a name as Alanna.
- Surely as she grows they’re going to realise some… physical… differences between her and the rest of the guys🤔

- I’m waiting for this to get a bit more ominous. Like if you’re going to do a dystopian tech future, then you’ve got to make it with creepy undertones, but so far it’s not there at all because the protagonist has lived a different lifestyle than everyone else.
- The scariest thing so far is the sick sister, and that’s not very dystopian at all.
- I should probably give this more of a chance lol I’m so impatient!

- How can I just move on from this masterpiece? I’m so immensely sad right now.

- “I think she wants to be alone, Philip.”“Then you don’t know her as well as I do.” Ok Philip! This has got me giggling and kicking my feet.
- And then that beautiful artwork of the sea view.
- I’m not mad Tabby’s stuck in arena. I want more of the mystery and more if her and Philip!

- It’s such a good detail that the same scene in Tabby’s recollection shows Philip with a completely different expression than the actual scene he spoke to her in!
- Nelsi is so adorable. I love her energy and spunk! Does she realise that they will all think Tabby is working with the Geists now that she’s helped them escape? I love the political aspect of this.
- That Priestess is messed up. What a bully!

- Philip was jealous of Paeter making a move on Tabby aaw that is SO CUTE. I cannot stop gushing they are so sweet😭
- So bring a Geist means you have an innate ability to deal with Ciphrony? But all the regular people could still fly so I don’t fully get it.
- That double page spread was absolutely gorgeous art!
- “I’m from Fast.”“Faast?” This should not have cracked me up as much as it did.
