- Ellery always acts calm and collected but I could tell Leroux really got to him more than anything. And his scream for Poe no😭
- Its been four volumes and I’m fully invested in these characters. I kind of can’t believe any of this has happened. I keep expecting them all to just pop up like surprise it wasn’t real!
- The more time that passes, the less I believe the Seiji is still alive theory.

- Things are really hotting up now!
- I’m liking the shift of focus to more of the island because that’s the bit that interests me a lot more. Conan and her mainland escapades don’t seem relevant but I know at some point they will become crucial.
- 2 down! 5 more to go! The second murder was fairly surpassing, I did not expect that character to die! The first seemed so much more disposable than the second.

- I don’t trust this random guy hanging around Conan. He’s the little brother’s only alibi, but how do we know he’s not lying?
- It’s not escaped my notice that none of the murder club knows what Seiji looks like. The theory that Seiji and the gardener swapped is brilliant and I have a theory that the random guy could be Seiji. But the gardener’s wife would have recognised him so maybe plastic surgery?

- I’ve just tried to start colouring a new page from this volume and it’s actually a lot harder than I thought it would be and I’m quite impressed with my old works. It’s a skill you have to practice!

- Let’s enter the Decagon House again for the first time since 2021!
- The first time I read this the series was still ongoing which can be an issue for two reasons:
1. I’m not sure how many volumes there will be so I don’t know how much of a commitment I’m making by starting the first vol.
2. I have to wait for new volumes to come out by which time I’ve usually forgotten everything that happened.

- Another plot twist! I also sort of guessed this one but not as strongly as the other one.
- Poor Jake. After all of that I wouldn’t ever want to go inside again either.
- I just wish Jake could go back to his old life and be happy but he can’t ever go back now.
- It honestly blows my mind how low DARPA are with the way that they snatched him. It also makes me wonder how Liesel and Jake’s dad know each other.

- Plot twist! Except I already guessed it. But still it’s a pretty good twist! In fact, I’m totally loving this book👏🏻
- There’s definitely more to Jake’s power. I wonder if his sister has a power too. It definitely seems like the dad and the grandpa both did. It seems odd that neither of them would share it with him, but one was paranoid and the other was overly cautious so it makes sense in a way.

- Reading this for Middle Grade Madness’ TBR Challenge 2026 task 1: a book written by an author whose first or last name starts with the letter “A”.
- This is edge of your seat stuff! So good!
- Such a great premise and fantastic protagonist.

- Stuff is happening which is better than nothing happening, but it’s all happening at a snail’s pace.
- I feel like the narration is really bogged down with the world building and the wimpiness of the protagonist.
- This could eventually go somewhere good, but it’s just too long so I’ll be happy if I manage to finish this and don’t DNF it.

- Actually yeah no. I’m getting whiplash with how I’m picking this up and dropping it back into the DNF pile. It’s just so tedious to read but maybe one day I will finish it so I can give it the 2 star rating it deserves.

- This borrow has expired on Hoopla. Oh well, onto the DNF pile it goes!

- Here I am continuing my long-running streak of starting Shazam comics and never finishing them!
- I love the concept of Shazam, but I find the execution tends to be boring. They always go crazy and quirky whereas I’d rather they lent into the double life of a teen hero in the same vein as Iron Man: Armored Adventures.

- Reading this for Middle Grade Madness’ TBR Challenge 2026 task 9: Read a book about a rebellion or uprising.
- Bobby is a wuss and it’s kind of annoying.
- The narration is repetitive. I’ve never seen the word craggy used so often!

- Talking dinosaurs! From space! Very Doctor Who lol. I have no thoughts other than that.

- I’m so bad at recognising which dragon is which that I’m so confused by this graphic novel.
- Love the idea of a prophecy but these dragons seem like the weakest prophecy subjects ever haha.

- I cannot believe I have picked this back up. It is every bit as insufferable as I remember yet I’m determined to finish it this time!
- This wouldn’t be so bad if the protagonist and the love interest where mirror images of each other. Some variation would be interesting, instead their POVs are barely distinguishable.

- “You know where you are. You know who you are. You’re Wally West. You’re fifteen years old… And you’re completely and totally alone.”

- 2 shocking revelations already! The identity of the Pakhan and the conversations with Mr Grey.
- I’m still suspicious of Anastasia. At first I thought she was in on it, then I thought she wasn’t, then I thought she was on the good side, and now I’m back to thinking she’s in on it.
- I don’t trust Mr Grey. But it tickles me to think that he might not be what I initially thought he was.

- I’m honestly shocked at how quickly I’ve managed to read this much of this book. I can’t help but wonder if that’s down to the fact that my room in Dubai has no wifi so I can’t get distracted by Instagram or movies, or the fact that this is so well-written and easy to read, or the fact that this book series is really nostalgic for me. Either way, I’m thoroughly enjoying this!

- So it turns out I was reading book 6 instead of book 5! Haven’t made that mistake in a while whoops!

- I thought I would have to wait ages to read this so I’m quite surprised to see it on Hoopla already!
- As much as I hate to see a good story end, I equally hate to see a good story drag on. So I hope this ends here with vol 3 and we get a good conclusion and answer to the overarching mystery…

- I don’t know why I’m reading this again considering I remember the plot pretty well, but I was watching Rosemary’s Baby (tv show) last month and then got a craving for the whole ominous reveal part, so I’m looking forward to that.
- I don’t remember disliking Alexis this much last time I read it but she’s a bit awful now that she’s got some popularity and a boyfriend. I don’t think it suits her.

- Back on this book and it’s so engaging and easy to get sucked in. That’s vampires for you, eh👀 (haha)
- It’s poetic and shocking that her name is not Ashley June. The fact that Gene named her that because he reminds her of how he felt when he saw the ashes of their burnt books in the June sun is so tragically beautiful.
- I needn’t have worried in my last update, Gene does feel bad for the Dome humans.

- “Three o’clock, and all’s well.” I read this at midnight (not 3 o’clock) but all is definitely not well in the messed up life of Jersey Hatch.
- So we’ve managed to narrow the list down to: 1. felt guilty, 2. life sucking, or 3. ex-girlfriend. Funnily enough all 3 could technically be one and the same. I I feel like it’s number 3 though, maybe she cheated on him with his best friend…

- Light vs dark, duh, the light is going to win. Our guy is majorly overpowered anyway, so it’s a given.
- When is the protagonist and the love interest finally going to give in? Although I’m not sure if I would like it as much as the romantic tension because half of the fun is the journey to get there.
- I feel bad for the protagonist about the creepy guy, but also she did it to herself🤦🏻‍♀️

- Talk about majorly overpowered! These guys can basically do anything as long as you can find a tenuous link to light.
- Oh my gosh, it’s light vs dark. It’s so funny how childish that is for a teen book.
- The banter is just bad. They don’t bounce off of each other, it’s just like constant unattractive bickering despite how many times they insist the love interest is hawt as anything. Just smooch already!

- It amuses me how Katy is constantly being insulted by everyone yet she can’t understand why. I know a reveal is coming but I sort of don’t want it to because the build up is good.
- Daemon is a fantastic gaslighter. I love that Katy refuses to fall for it though.
- A third sibling who disappeared is quite a twist! My guess is he’s not dead but that’s way too obvious. Maybe he will return in a later book…

- It’s so surprising that I recognised the book described in the protagonist’s blog as Touch by Jus Accardo considering I barely read much of that book. But that’s definitely the right book because the description matches and it was published by the same publisher at the same time as this book.
- The dialogue is so unbelievable cringy. I just can’t understand how this is an author who is so highly rated.
