I mostly enjoyed this book!!! The end felt a bit long and somehow also had me wanting something else but not entirely dissatisfying.

I loved the concept and the overall world created here.

Still enjoying this! There’s a story within a story which can be hit or miss but the author does it well for me. Both stories are gripping and relevant to each other and I am equally invested in both. January is able to escape into a story as I escape into hers. The parallel increasing intrigue and investment into it all.

This book has been a nice change of pace from my nonfiction chokehold.

I listened to this (book by an audiobook orator about an audiobook orator cmon). Something fun about romance is even if you have an idea of where it’s going the predictability doesn’t have to ruin it. I liked the little twists & that it wasn’t just about the romance — exploring work, friends, family dynamics, & dementia. There were pockets of disjointedness where I wanted more but overall a fun read

Freddie was full of contractions — a multifaceted man people try to put in a box. “The great pretender”, he was all the different versions of himself he presented all at once. His lasting memory screams authenticity.

This book so far has shown how multidimensional he was. So many different perspectives linger without his perspective truly known.

I can’t help but view him through a neurodivergent lens.

I continue to be entranced by the history of Queen & Freddie Mercury.

Retrospectives are interesting. At the time life is fraught but looking back we can see the unfolding. I find peace in this much as sadness. Freddie’s fate is well known so as the story goes is a tension underlying — a voyeur to tragedy.

Freddie lived the questions. He continued on unknown paths toward answers I hope he felt before he died

Currently obsessed with Freddie. Like he’s LIVING nonstop in my mind.

Queen is truly an iconic band & its frontman is an enigma — mysterious + complex. He was able to have a confidence/presence despite any timidness & KNEW he was destined for something & didn’t stop.

I feel deeply connected to his story

So far I like how this book chronicles his life alongside contradictory perspectives about his life

I started reading this book last year and stopped at this point in. There were valuable nuggets of information but, from a neurodiversity lens, there was something to be lacking. I can’t remember exactly what it was that made me stop reading this but I remember this clashing with me from a therapeutic perspective. Definitely remember lack of inclusivity. However, I do want to finish it.

Okay now I’m hooked!!!! I was intrigued by the format at first then couldn’t get into it but now the format is really pulling me in. As the book goes on I get curious and imaginative about what else is happening. The power of the written word and correspondence is real. Perspective is a tricky thing.

Started this at the rec of my wonderful sister and was intrigued, but really struggled to get into the book — here I am months later, revisiting it and so far am more into it than last time

Much of this information is not new to me but has been a good reminder about stress and it’s impacts and the implications of social structures on people (particularly women, but patriarchy affects men too) today. I like the anecdotes (especially because the information itself isn’t fresh for me personally) because contextualizing the information in people’s individual lives is always important

There are parts of this I really like and parts that make it hard for me to engage/Some vignettes I LOVED and others I don’t see the through lines — I wonder if anything is lost in translation.

Either way not everything gets tied up in a bow for there to be magic or a miracle.

I love a romance where people can overcome their fears and embrace their shadow and find love!!! Lowkey wanted more Peter and Petra (would have loved to see a wedding and a dramatic confession somehow) to bump up the drama in the story but really enjoyed it.

A feel good predictable story with themes of family, independence, and duality.

Just what I needed to really get me out of my book slump!!!!

Emily Henry knows how to get me!! Love the premise. Sweetie Milessssss and resonate with Daphne’s wounds about being left.

Always love the way Emily Henry intertwines more than just romance — other relationships and internal wounds.

Love the identification of growth and reflection from Daphne rn yes girl

That last one got me good — family is beautiful and messy and complex and intense. Exploring aging, death, responsibility, and conflict.

Chapter 4 is what finally gripped me

The vignettes don’t feel wrapped up. Like at the end of the story it’s very open ended which part of me likes and part of me doesn’t. It draws you in to participate and think about what their next choices might be and a reminder the same goes for us — we can choose to change how it ends.

The themes are also darker than I’ve anticipated

I looooooove me some Emily Henry — finishing just in time for the movie (and to inevitably think the lead was miscast and wish it could have been me)

iii The Proposal

After about a year I found myself picking this up again. This series is near & dear to my heart but I hit a bit of a slump w/ this one. However, I think it was just meant to find me now.

This vignette touched me deeply sometimes it isn’t until it’s too late in some ways do we understand. We may not be able to change the past but we can sure let it change our future.

a little bit of Japanese history/relationship to nature paired with beginning to explore the benefits of nature/“nature therapy” — shinrin-yoku is literally translated as forest bathing.

awe and “wow” takes so many forms— so much wonder in this world; a prayer to name it.

This chapter a reminder of the power of the posture of thanks — that gratitude takes grit; in the face of the mystery to choose thank you is not easy but it life changing

The first section of Anne’s breakdown of 3 prayers. She so beautifully holds the tension of people’s contexts. The cries from the heart across spiritual belief— her being raised non religious. Holding humility & honestly Lamott sits in the uncomfortable space of things being unknown & out of our control and moving through our pleads knowing that.

Love her concept of God box — I might use that.

Palmer really speaks to the ways culturally we fragment.

I love how in honesty he shares the things that did not work for him but pulls a common thread through.

Always a reminder of authenticity and an intrinsic sense that is frequently condemned.

I feel like I may be on a similar internal journey to a young to middle aged Parker.

Way has closed many a time in my life.
