The POV character chapters give such a unique rhythm, allowing you to take a breath after a well-executed tension building. But you know the structure works especially well when you wish nothing but to continue reading through this character’s eyes only to find out there is another 80 pages to go through. What a cliffhanger!

Case studies that chapter 8 explore are those that have been discussed thousands of times in marketing classes e.g. Dove and BP but it's still an interesting read when looked through the concept of belief and whether the companies' actions are aligned with that ideal, particularly in the time when it's easy to be cynical.

I haven’t touched this book since when the series was still the best thing on TV. But picking it up again not only felt like no time had passed but it was also a breath of fresh air. A real page-turner, George’s prose has such a pleasant rhythm to it. As a GoT fan, it may become impossible to revisit the early seasons without feeling despondent, but I guess we can always come back to the books.

Chapter 7: Just Believe feels like a career guidance than marketing toolkit, which I am not complaining. It’s nice to get some perspective.

Nothing is new under the sun. It’s wild to see how misinformation around public health issue seems to follow the same pattern.

I’ve known for quite some time how much F1 teams rely on historical data analysis to prepare for a race but Chapter 12: Thinking Ahead raised my appreciation to a whole new level. With only three one-hour practice sessions, it means that they must have a checklist of things they need to get a read on, from tyre performance to pit stop loss. They even have a tentative strategy and finishing position in place.

There’s a lot we can learn from how F1 teams operate and maximize their performance. One small yet crucial aspect is how they use their off-season, for example to analyze certain race events that they would have no time to do so during the season. Reminds us to always take note of the things that are too important to overlook despite not being urgent at that point in time.

Really enjoy learning about Bernie’s career and
how each team works differently but don’t ask me about vehicle dynamics or wind tunnel. Not that it is unclear, I just can’t seem to understand anything about cars no matter how hard I paid attention.

“Later she remembered all the hours of the afternoon as happy-one of those uneventful times that seem at the moment only a link between past and future pleasure but turn out to have been the pleasure itself.”

“Seb found a snake in the basement near Hanes’ Peak, dead, vomiting white goo from a poisoned mouse it had choked on”

Most disgusting, yet brilliant book chapters I’ve ever encountered. George Watsky is such a kindred spirit.

“As she pushed off, she knew no one would ever see the sandbar again. The elements have created a brief and shiny smile of sand, angled just so. The next tide, the next current would design another sandbar, and another, but never this one. Not the one who caught her. The one who told her a thing or two.”

I’ve never been this engrossed in a book in a long time.

"Sycamore and hickories stretched naked limbs against a dull sky, and the relentless wind sucked any joy the winter sun might have spread across the bleakness. A useless, drying wind in a sea-land that couldn’t dry."

Poetry does make you feel something.

“I’d learned after this many shows that any single performance can be the one that inflates your ego or destroys it, the night that makes you feel like a big web of energy links every single being across time and space or the gig that alienates you from very shallow, shitty human on the planet.”
