Okay. The line "there was a time when you weren't " in response to Markham telling Max he's always been Markham MIGHT go some way to explaining the issue, but doesn't really. Also, Markham KNOWS he wasn't always Markham!

Max has just told Varma about the time she and Dr Bairstow jumped to the Pronces in the Tower, but what she tells her isn't what happened! What is going on???

I can't believe Jodi Taylor would be this sloppy, so there must be a reason, but I can't think what.

Max musing to herself on the Princes in the Tower doesn't ring true - she KNOWS what happened to one of them (Markham). There's no way she would have forgotten!
I'm hoping this is satisfactorily resolved later, otherwise it's a massive continuity glitch!

No solicitor would ever ask if someone was "rather simple"! She'd say "learning difficulties/disabilities". This book was written in 2025, not 1975!

One thing is really irritating me(spoilers ahead): much is being made of how Michael's will leaves everything to his children, and the implication is that this will pre-dates his marriage. If that is so, then under British law it is invalid. I can just about believe that none of the characters know this, but surely at least one of the police officers would?

It's just getting more ridiculous by the second. No way would Allie go back to rescue someone who is shooting at her!

The constant references to the ominous 'day that changed everything ' are tedious and irritating.
The basic premise is totally unbelievable - how did they all get accepted to the same university and end up on the same corridor in halls?

I'm very tempted to skip ahead.

I don't like any of these characters and the premise so far is ridiculous - why don't they just tell Allie why Diana doesn't like her?

I seriously hope Perry gets murdered and nothing bad happens to Oriole!

I'm enjoying the slow reveal of the characters' secrets. It's very atmospheric and quite disturbing in places. The difference in personalities is very cleverly and subtly done, helped by the different first person narratives.

Thoughts so far - I'm struggling with this. It's not really grabbing my attention; the characters are two dimensional (apart from Jake, who is barely one dimensional) and the "twists" are telegraphed a mile off.
I will persevere but I'm basically skim reading now.
