Really unsure how to feel about this. Where Firebird had me by the throat immediately, I find that Stark here often keeps out details I need to understand what she's talking about (for instance, she narrates that Man 1 laughs, barmaid serves "both men" when a second has never been mentioned).

So only once we get back to Turi's POV for the second time is he encouraged to start documenting all his deals and political actions. Which means the NEAR 200 PAGES of "set-up" for Turi is basically unnecessary filler. It's at least half the fucking book and yet we've just established that the only IMPORTANT and DOCUMENT WORTHY things he does happen at page 260.

I'm finally back to Michael. Turi is interesting enough (as if the very obvious Baron Harkonnen-esque mafia boss), this part really drags in comparison. I can't put my finger on it--the Godfather was also laden with paused asides to explain mob-terminiology or some random tidbit about Sicily--but this one seems so much more halting.

And the way everyone talks about Elena is starting to rub me wrong, as is this VERY drawn out backstory reveal, just get to the point of her disgrace already.
