Not sure how I'm going to go with this. So far, it reads like a "Game of Thrones" but set in India. I'm going to give it another 100 pages or so...

Okay, so here I go. This is a major reading project! 300 pages in and it's a very good read. If you know even a little about Gandhi's life (like, you've seen the movie) this fills in the gaps. Guha is an excellent writer and the book just moves along at a nice clip. I think in the end I'll be glad I'm reading it in a compressed time. Only 900 pages to go - this thing is a TOME!

Okay, torn between wanting to be free of endless Trump reporting and curiosity about this book, I’ve caved. Will be fascinated to see how it goes. Surely Woodward will do a reasonably professional job.

I cannot believe I am reading this. It’s an absolutely rollicking political thriller and the easiest read I have had in months. Great literature it is not (sorry, President Clinton - how odd that feels I shouldn’t criticise the author?). Love there are so many women in it (thanks, Hilary!) but finding it hard to suspend disbelief - not a genre I usually read, I guess.

I think I'm becoming addicted, but this is a seriously dense book! And why won't someone knock off Joffrey, evil little twerp!!

gee this is good - even better than Wolf Hall, dare I say it. The storyline is tighter and moves along at a good clip. I'm getting a better sense of Cromwell as a person, too.

this is a completely rollicking read. What a terrific story - complex enough to get your attention, fast enough to keep you interested and keep turning the pages.
