loved it and her writing--poetry is around every corner in this book. at the beginning she paints the time and place splendidly, while introducing, with Paul, that feeling that gnaws at the writer, rat-like. the urge to 'put it all down,' while 'it' is still happening...

yup, like the story, i too in my little life feel as if we've jumped ahead into a future dreamt about but in nightmares.

this morning my dear sweet neighbor, bless her, left me a wonderful gift at my back door: 6 eggs! i was soooo thrilled and ate them slowly. con chile verde y tortillas.

Gosh, this is slow going. A book of tangents. About people I just can't seem to care about.

I'm short, I'm glad I read the short stories. Overall, they were interesting and weird, a combination I generally like. I have to say though that I started to get sick and tired of the misogyny and homophobia of his characters. I wanted "slimy schlomo the homo" to rise up and become, if not a hero than an anti-hero who at least stands up to people, telling them: vete la chingada. That story pissed me off.

unfortunately, I don't really get the hype.
