Reading slump, reading slump, maybe now I've moved house I'll break this reading slump...

DNF at 30%, but seems to be more a function of my current headspace than anything else

This has so far been everything I wanted in a boarding-school-with-dragons fantasy, and Anequs's realization concerning the relationship between skiltakraft and her own people's traditions made me tear up.

I want to highlight and underline and highlight and underline and share with everyone I know.

I go back and forth as to how I feel about short story collections in general, but this one got me in the feels from go. Let's see how the rest of it goes...

DNF @ 50%. It's an entertaining enough concept, but I'm going through a bit of a reading slump and the characters just aren't grabbing me, so I'm going to move on.

Ok, but why are so many horrible people allowed to be foster parents?! 😭

Audiobook for the re-read!

Nothing like having my ILLO come in when I'm supposed to be getting myself ready for book club. (Pay no attention to all the books I'm currently reading. 'Reading'). In my defense, the inspiration to read this book came from a secondary text spurred by my rereading of several months from now's book club book. Er... 🙃 I am a terrible librarian.

This came in with our new books this morning at work--how could I not grab it? We'll see what emotional reactions this can pull 😁🙃🥰

Then I'll have to learn more about this Kaplan fellow.🌝

Not what I was expecting, and I was a bit on the fence after the first few chapters, but I'm getting into it.

Renee is the real catch, though I'm also enjoying Casey's perspective, and there are some great lampoons of the present moment.

Im not generally a fan of road trip novels, and admittedly I've yet to reach the road trip, but I'm very much enjoying the style and narrative voice of Imogen Binnie's Maria. I can very easily see how this work became a cult novel, in terms of its pulpy-but-not-poorly-edited, conversational tone. Off to a strong start!

That first story, though. Damn. Approximately my reaction when someone told me about DMT.

I am trying and failing to describe this incredibly beautiful, musical-without-sounding-forced, everything everything everything kind of writing, but I am Jack Skellington's first visit to Christmas Town. For anyone who has struggled with meaning in academia, it will be immediately recognizable and resonant. I haven't been this excited by a book in this settings since Dionne Brand's 'Theory'. BRB, What. Is. This?!
