My second time reading this book. Many of the details have faded from my memory, but I remember the second book in the "His Dark Materials" series being my favorite.

It is certainly a lean story, and the shortest book in the trilogy. It has a very different feel to the first book and takes some unexpected turns.

Do I like it better than the first book? This time around, I'm not sure. Time will tell.

I am getting ready to begin “Svalbard” now. The book has not lost any of the magic I recall it having all those years ago. “The Subtle Knife” is my favorite of the trilogy, and I am excited to experience it again.

I loved these books when I first read them as a young adult. In recent years, I've moved away from reading fiction and picked these up after getting the itch to read for reading's sake. I am curious to see if they hold up to my rose-colored glasses, and if I will enjoy them as much as I did the first time around.
