It's taking much longer for me to get through this one than the other two. Partially because my focus has lead me to other books, and also because it's DENSE AS HELL. Pullman could have divided this into 2-3 independent books all on it's own. I like it a lot, but it feels more involved than TGC and TSK.

My second time reading this book. Many of the details have faded from my memory, but I remember the second book in the "His Dark Materials" series being my favorite.

It is certainly a lean story, and the shortest book in the trilogy. It has a very different feel to the first book and takes some unexpected turns.

Do I like it better than the first book? This time around, I'm not sure. Time will tell.

I am getting ready to begin “Svalbard” now. The book has not lost any of the magic I recall it having all those years ago. “The Subtle Knife” is my favorite of the trilogy, and I am excited to experience it again.

I loved these books when I first read them as a young adult. In recent years, I've moved away from reading fiction and picked these up after getting the itch to read for reading's sake. I am curious to see if they hold up to my rose-colored glasses, and if I will enjoy them as much as I did the first time around.
