Struggling with this one. Done my usual and given it 100 pages, although I suspected from about 30 in that this wasn’t for me. I can’t put my finger on quite why it isn’t working for me: it’s well written; it’s an intriguing premise; there’s some lovely description, but for some reason I’m not ‘there’ in the story; I don’t sympathise with the characters. Should I continue? Any suggestions?

Reading this to my Y3 aged son. We're taking it slowly as it is quite a challenging read for his age but he is really enjoying it. For me, it is very reminscent of the style of children's classics, using some beautiful language appropriate to the time setting, but also accessible to a contemporary child.
