This is such an exciting middle-grade fantasy! Really pulled in by the mystery of these talking books and mom’s secretive background and the winking white mongoose.

Not the best one for Paper Kindlewhite. A) I bet the pictures are colorful and b) it’s scanned in like every page is a photo. It has some aesthetic benefit, but kind of a pain to have to keep moving the image around to read the text.

Totally over-hyped.

Oh no, what have I gotten into? A 1000-page fanfic with way too much new vocabulary and backstory at the beginning. And when she is recognized by her interrogator, they lead with “you were the student who lived with x family, weren’t you?” instead of “your boyfriend was the leader of the resistance, wasn’t he?”

Already upsetting me. This climate disaster is mostly the fault of living assholes.

Interesting mix of Greek and Roman mythologies with a little Chinese thrown in plus an autistic harpy with a mnemonic memory.

I really like it, but Carl seems to be smarter than Princess Donut despite her much higher intelligence points. And if her claws are that sharp, how is she hanging on his back with them and not causing damage?

I like it. Can see why the series has a devoted fan base!

Ooh! Lost Lands! And the cat named Butter should meet the cat Pancake from Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Loving it so far. It’s like Pillars of the Earth but with a really clever young dutchess with a plan up her sleeve. So glad to read more from this author!

Do not read this to the halfway point and then send your daughter to summer camp. Especially if she is not vaccinated against meningitis. Especially if the pediatrician just told you it’s now a suggested vaccine where you live but she is in between the ages where the health insurance pays for them because they weren’t on the schedule when she was little.

My 10-year-old and I have been looking forward to a few chapter of this every night. It’s funny and exciting.

I think the type reminds me of Gary Shteyngart. Lots of hilarious observations.

Years ago, I decided not to read any more WWII books. But today, I made an exceotipn because it Alice Hoffman. It‘s good but also making me feel terrible!

Not as good as Project Hail Mary. Nearly the same narrator, but it’s 90% walking through the science to solve astronaut problems.

Coincidentally, one of the other books I’m reading also has a married father of two impregnating a teenage girl. In this one, the girl has to raise the baby alone.

It FEELS like I’m close to finishing but I am not! Suspenseful and magical. I love it.

Narration switches between first and third person. Kind of weird device. Does the TV show do that?

I read this in college and forgot most of the plot.

So far Bagger has proved himself a terrible soldier with disgraceful morals but he cares for orphaned 14-year-old Arno and wants to help the angel they find in the battlefield so I like him.
