For those who have read H.W. Brands, where should I start?

I have most likely figured out that this is not the best place to start with Danielewski.

Ok...I lied in my first comment. I will not be finishing this year.

Practically halfway finished. It needn't be this long...

So much filler, but I'm starting to believe it's necessary.

I'm glad I've stuck with this. Overly written at times, but still surprisingly good.

For the love of God, Danielewski can ramble on for pages about something that could take a 4 line paragraph. Still enjoying, but damn this book could probably be 1/6 as long and still have the same effect.

Enjoying it more than I expected.

I will take the rest of the year with this book.

For all my history buff friends...what's the best history book you've read this year? It can be related to anywhere in the world or even an interesting biography that has quite the historical context.
