Unimpressed so far. The narrative is clouded by tangents that are neither insightful or particularly relevant. 30 page reading report on Walden and Melville with the most basic-ass level interpretation is laughable. Getting mogged by Sven Beckert

Thrilling.

Finally starting this. Strong start. Author made a conscious effect to be objective and unbiased

Goddamnit this is as good as anything I've ever read

Preparation for the Zoe Kazan Netflix adaptation. (How cool is that to do a new take on a book your own grandfather made a classic into?) Need to pace myself to not devour it in one sitting because it's already so spellbindingly epic.

Restarting this one and was once again reminded nobody quite writes like Caro. The only writer can make archaic senate rules and power struggle as thrilling as a highway car chase

This is the best book I have read in a while. Such an unexpected page turner that is the perfect alchemy of literary criticism and biography. Meticulously researched. I am genuinely excited to pick it up everyday.
