Lori is starting These Summer Storms
This is between and 2 and 3. Very rich family that rivals Jobs. Etc. the father made his money in tech and controls the family. Prodigal daughter returns for the celebration of his life to the island they live on. This book had a lot of cliches and was filled with cheesy and cringe worthy writing.

Lori is starting The Women
The best book I’ve read about Viet Nam. I can’t believe I never completed this. It’s about the nurses that felt left out when they returned home. I wish more of the story took place in Viet Nam. Nurses came back and suffered pats but were told they couldn’t help them.

Lori is on page 123 of 384 of The Mighty Red
Page 123. I have to take this back to the library. Main character getting married at 18 even though she wanted to go to college. Dad narcissist and stole money from the church. Grooms family richest in the area. Small town and most of the women are in a book club that owner of the bike store owns. Bride is in love with her son even though she is marrying someone else. Beet farm

Lori is starting Mother, Nature: A 5,000-Mile Journey to Discover if a Mother and Son Can Survive Their Differences
In the 70’s Barbara and Peter Jenkins walked from New Orleans to Bend Oregon and wrote several books about this experience. . In 2020 Barbara and their son Jedidiah drive this wrote.

Barbara is a conservative Christian and Jedidiah is A gay Christian. BarbarA does not accept homosexuality. The book was pitched to me as a travelogue. Many odd travel stories. Liked didn’t love and I probably wouldn’t recommend

Lori is starting Dirt Creek
This author was able to bring you in and feel all the feels and emotions of the characters. You were able to visualize what the characters looked like, see the small town and feel the heat(which was great on this cold day) .BUT I didn’t really like the book, many triggering subjects and unlikeable characters.

Lori is starting Tom Lake
What can I say? Liked this book but I didn’t love it. Cherries, Michigan, actors, family, pandemic. That’s a condensed version. It started out slow but the last 1/2 maybe even quarter was very good.

Lori is starting Bad Summer People
I thought this was a murder mystery but the murder didn’t occur until the last quarter of the book wish it was a more incorporated into the story a little more. I like books about rich dysfunctional people but this was over the top. Takes place on a small island on Fire Island. The writing about the storm was great.

Lori is starting Meet Me at the Lake
Not a book for me. Irritating that something happened one day 10 years ago and it returns and caused angst and it makes a complete past and present. I do like books set in resorts but that’s about. Trying to be vague in my description here

Lori is starting Every Summer After
I’m surprised how much everyone loved this book as it seemed so predictable. Nice lake story but I’m sure I won’t remember it in a few days. I like the authors notes in the back. I pictured Sam as Adam Grenier.

Lori is starting Yellow Wife
This book was hard to read but I know it must be read. I didn’t care for the ending in the form of a letter. I planned on giving it 3.5 stars but I’m rounding it up to 4. Needed a little more character development.

Lori is starting Greenwich Park
This book is billed as a thriller but it didn’t freak me out like a thriller usually does. A pregnant woman goes to Lamaze and meets another pregnant woman that changes her life. The smoking and drinking is nothing. Very trusting soul. Quick read that I enjoyed.

Lori is starting Me-Stories of My Life-Katherine Hepburn
Good actress poorly written. I was trying to read the books I had here before I got anything new. This book from 91 didn’t hold up today. Learned a few new things but mostly skimmed it towards the end

Lori is starting Wow, No Thank You.: Essays
I’ve heard Samantha interviews on the radio and saw her at list fest but never read her books. I picked this up for a humorous read and it has laugh out loud moments. Every chapter is an essay and there are chapters I can relate to but since m more than 20 years older there are things I have no knowledge of which is very apparent in the music section. Glad I started the year off laughing 😂

Lori is starting The Noticer: Sometimes, All a Person Needs Is a Little Perspective
Jones of unknown age and race walks a beach town and finds people in despair. He offers advice in their time of need. I found this book uplifting but I know to some it could be perceived as creepy. There was some bad advice imo. The focus of the book is perspective. In the time we are living in I found this book positive

Lori is starting What Happens in Paradise (Paradise, #2)
I haven’t loved her summer books as much as I did in the past. This is the 2nd book in a trilogy about a family in crisis after the husbands secret life is revealed after his death. Most of the story takes place in the Virgin Islands, great description of the beautiful island while I’m dealing with snow. Ends on a what happens now note. I guess I’ll wait a year for the next book.

I know everyone loves her books and I’m in the minority. I like but don’t love, enjoyed the quirky characters and the Canadian Quebec(Three Pines) location. A mystery wrapped in a court case.
