Unexpectedly this book is very dear to me and I definitely picked it up at the right time!! Something about their dynamic, the wit, the sarcasm, the honesty and comfort, joining in on the journey of That unique experience and how quickly it can happen. It gives me hope :’)

I need to stop requesting 100 books that are expected to be available at the same time I’m overwhelmed and can’t say no
Anyway loving the gothic atmosphere, the yearning ofc, and the introspective gloom of it all

This writing is so intense and so dark and full of religion (or lack thereof) & nature metaphors I need to get a physical copy

“The parts of me that were once afraid can no longer be found. Perhaps they will come back to terrify me again, but for now I can’t feel them.” And trustttt they will

“Telling these memories is so painful for me. It’s already been six years since my friend went away, tak-ing his sheep with him. If I try to describe him here, it’s so I won’t forget him. It’s sad to forget a friend. Not everyone has had a friend.” oh so this is painful amazinggggg thank youuuuuu

it’s hard to pinpoint why this book feels so cozy given the chaos but it also heavily reminds me of Book of Geese (or goose I forgot) where we follow the narrators interpersonal relationships as she grows through her perspective and whatever reliability can rly be ascribed to that (so also kind of giving Briony in Atonement)

She has undoubtedly suffered from a toxic work environment amongst a multitude of other awful experiences working under objectively awful people howeverrrrrrrrr it is also true that she plays a major role in shaping Facebook’s influence in geopolitics and is awful in her contributions knowing the kind of power she was helping bring to FB like come onnnn the tone of denial of wrongdoing in her writing is loudddd

Two perspectives of grappling with mortality and finding friendship in unexpected places. Showing tenderness in the roughest conditions, building a found family, guilt and grief and losing yourself and finding yourself, finding support within a community as odd as it may be, etc etc. I love Vuongs writing and how much depth there is behind the words and interactions of the characters :P

“I pray you only give me the chance to spend my life in constant proving. I could spend my life in the Fire Swamp and sing from morn til night if you were by me. I could spend eternity sinking down through Snow Sand if my hand held your hand. My preference would be to last eternity with you beside me on a cloud, but hell would also be a lark if Westley was with me..” so much whimsy:’) def a new favorite book!!

Can’t tell if this authors lack of accountability in how utterly complacent she is in every single aspect she’s outlining is ragebait or WW syndrome
