oh thank fuck it’s almost done

I am not one to clutch my pearls at a books’ content. But when there has been no cursing, at all, not even a “damn”, for 263 pages?

The random and sudden use of “fuck” was incredibly jarring.

Again, I say fuck every fucking day. It’s not the word itself that shocked me— it’s the author’s complete inability to be consistent.

I’m further, and I still don’t like it. Which is frustrating!
The thing is, there’s seeds of something good here. The plot hook is wild, but the craziness is engaging. The author clearly cares about food, and how to describe it.
But the actual writing is just bad. Long, meandering sentence, half-page paragraphs, characters indistinguishable from each other.
I’m still gonna finish it, bc I’m stubborn.

Two weeks ago, I glanced through the first page of this book, and was struck by the first sentence.
Rambling, run-on, overly detailed and yet frustratingly vague; it was possibly the worst First Sentence I’d read all year.
And I couldn’t stop thinking about it. The way that the sentence was bad was almost an art form in itself.
I am returning out of intrigue and perhaps schadenfreude.
So far, the book: bad.
