This book is like Drunk History, Big Fish, and Ancient Aliens combined. “Sparks flew along the bottom as the ship skidded against the seafloor below it. Then the hologram flashed red and white as a massive explosion erupted below the ship, ripping it into two, three, now four pieces. “We think it was a giant methane pocket on the seabed. It exploded with the force of a dozen nuclear warheads.”

Strike that. Not Crichton. Dan Brown. The author is stretching to link every possible event and person to the narrative. It’s a bit overdone.

The author is trying to be Crichton. But so far there are spurts if action and a lot of boring waiting. Reading a very boring journal from decades before, no explanation as to what’s actually going on or who is behind it...it feels like he couldn’t decide on the actual plot ending even this far into writing.

"It's a funny thing, Markos, but people mostly have it backward. They think they live by what they want. But really what guides them is what they're afraid of. What they don't want."

"She is furious with herself for her own stupidity. Opening herself up like this, voluntarily, to a lifetime of worry and anguish. It was madness. Sheer lunacy. A spectacularly foolish and baseless faith, against enormous odds, that a world you do not control will not take from you the one thing you cannot bear to lose. Faith that the world will not destroy you."
