I finished this book, and from a writer's perspective learning all they can about the art and craft of written storytelling (my perspective), this is a very good book to read for language, man-woman relationships, the intimacy of sex, and the exquisite use of language.

This book started slow to me, but at the 30% mark it began to sink into me how intertwined and complex these characters are. And Gabaldon is a master of using language and showing complex and variable relationships between characters. It's a great read for authors looking to hone their craft.

His conclusions are at once obvious and frightening. This is one of those books that everyone should read.

It's history, but this writer is more entertaining than many historians. I'll definitely keep going.

This is a history book, so it's a bit dry. But if you really want the information, as I did, then it's great.

I didn't realize the slave trade (of captives from other tribes, mainly women and children) was so important to the Utes.
