I will say this, this book is slow to start but it finally has my attention.

I’m have many questions, no answers.

At times it feels like Laura is infatuated with this woman staying with them now. And it comes off as reciprocated until Carmilla becomes snappy.

I’m not sure if this is meant happen or it’s just because it’s a male writer writing from the POV of a 19 year old woman.

Well, there is a strange bitey lady going around biting 6 year olds and killing people.

Did… did an adult just bite the chest of a six year old!

This book is a slog. I don’t know if it’s because I had no interest in it before I started to read it for book club or if it’s the writing. Either way, I’m finding it very hard to get through.

Chapter 7&8: Violet if finally coming getting into her element and it nice to see that it’s not something that comes naturally and she has to work for it.

Chapter 5&6: Dain is really pushing the overprotective love interest. Violet thankfully didn’t regress to 16 much and it was good to see the contrast between her strengths and weaknesses.

Chapter 4: I’m not sure how I feel about Dain. Xaden is giving me “bad guy to good guy vibes” like something is going to happen to make him and Violet see eye to eye, somewhat. And the 16 year old thought process was not seen at all this chapter.

Chapter 3: There are moments where I’m loving this and moments when I wondering when Violet turned into a 16 year old. I get it. The guys are hot. But why are you noticing that when you’re in a dangerous situation! Priorities!

Chapter 2: Jack is a dick. I’m placing bets that either he is going to die very quickly because of his ego, he and Violet go head to head for real and she takes the murderous look out of his eyes or they become friends.

Chapter 1: Overall a good chapter. Have a good introduction to Violet and her family, as well as some other characters. Could have done without the paragraph about how good looking Xaden is and the use of the word “hot” every couple of words.
