A Cold War classic. About time I read it!

A chill ran up Doc’s spine and made his scalp tingle. He was still haunted by the unspeakable scenes he had witnessed during the kamikaze battle the previous month. His triage station in the officers’ wardroom had been awash with blood, while the smell of the burnt sailors and their cries still echoed around his mind in the darkest watches of the night.

What a great book! A solid, intriguing technothriller with a very interesting premise.

I knew nothing about the plot before I started reading. The strength of this book is that although I guessed the story very early on, I enjoyed the writing and characterisation so much, I was happy to read on to see how the author unwrapped the plot.

I read this in two days in three sittings. I'd definitely recommend it.
