Love the concept - that female friendships are as meaningful as romantic relationships - but rubbed slightly the wrong way by the author's seeming assertion that this is a new concept. Um, have you read any of the letters/diaries of women throughout history? Women have ALWAYS had close, deep relationships. It's not called a sisterhood for nothing.

Love the construct, but I'm honestly not sure how I'm going to get through this one. I can't read it while eating and I have a feeling it's not something I should read right before bed, which ... doesn't leave a lot of options.

This is compulsively readable.

Runcie writes with an apparent complete lack of contractions.

Really excellent time travel books are so rare. This one's not terrible, but it's not great.

methinks Bryson feels the same way I do about James Patterson.

is it normal to cry over an architecture book?

this book is TRIPPY.

this is the kind of prose I marvel at. So, so beautiful.

"cooking is best approached from wherever you find yourself when you are hungry..." this is the best book about the art of cooking and eating that I've ever read.

I can't even describe how much I am loving this book.
