I'm finding this one frustrating -- the author frequently puts words in the mouth of the ancient philosophers he's surveying. I'd give up on it, but it was part of a list I promised myself I'd read in its entirety. You'd be better off reading even a mediocre translation of Epictetus, Aurelius, Seneca et al -- they wrote simply and well -- and their voices and ideas come through with tremendous immediacy.
