it’s taking me forever to finish this because it’s honestly triggering as heck so i keep putting it down for awhile before coming back to it. but i’m thankful du mez wrote this, it’s vitally important context for the current state of american culture and politics.

i’m halfway through this book and it has just barely started to become mildly interesting within the last few pages. up until now, it’s just been a lot of reminding the reader that our protagonist is incredibly beautiful and an incredibly talented assassin who loves to read and isn’t like other girls. it’s not the worst book i’ve ever read but so far i am very confused as to why this series is so popular.

I didn't actually finish this book but I doubt I'll be picking it up again since it's been over a year since I read it last. I got about halfway through though and It was fine. Just not my cup of tea, I guess. Maybe I'll finish it some day.

SO many mixed feelings on this book so far. Much of the time, Ehrenreich totally nails the struggles of the working class and the soul-crushing, exhausting and thankless life of a minimum wage employee. However, despite much lip-service to a desire for social justice and anti-racism, she often comes off as racist herself and sometimes speaks of her co-workers very condescendingly as if observing animals in a zoo.

I think I'm giving up on this book. I'm not even a quarter of the way through but I just have no desire to pick it up again. I've tried a few times but after only a few paragraphs, I groan and put it back down. There's too many books I'd rather spend my time on than force myself to finish this one.

This poor book keeps getting put on the back burner as I get distracted by other brighter and shinier books but it's pretty good so far.

I've been reading this for awhile now so I don't know why it took so long for me to add it on here but this is a pleasant book that I really like reading before bed. The writing isn't amazing and it's obviously heavily influenced by Lord of the Rings but considering that the author was only 14 years old at the time, I have to give him some serious props.

First of all, I'm reading the expanded "The Final Chapter" edition so I'm actually on page 467 out of 693 pages.

The only reason I didn't finish this book long ago is because this last section talks a lot about Torchwood--which I haven't seen yet--and I don't want spoilers. But it's really an amazing book and I devoured those first 467 pages with lightning speed.
