There isn't anything boring about the romance, but actually fine the conversations around insurance policies more interesting. The discussions that Vander has with his father around insurance coverage, the East India company, and the history around commercial trade is very interesting.

What a surprising and wonderful start. I love the lighthearted touch to this story and even though the hero is a dissolute rake, he reminds me of Alistair Carsington from Miss Wonderful. Yes, a rake, but ultimately utterly harmless. 🙂

While I'm absolutely enjoying the heck out of this book, at this point, it's starting to feel unnecessarily dragged out. I'm trying to balance the reality of how long it would take for Inez to truly accept a relationship between Sol and Judah while wishing for consistent pacing in the story. I think Ryan's storytelling is realistic, but it translates to slowed pacing for the reader and a desire for the HEA asap.

How does Ryan do it? How does she make me feel so viscerally when I haven't read even 10% of the book yet?

This wasn't what I expected. I wasn't expecting a "normal" behaving billionaire. And I was expecting OCD and grief rep. I'm pleasantly surprised by Asher.

There is something about Ember that, despite her gracelessness and almost brash personality, it's actually kind of lovable. It has a bit of Bridget Jones vibes, with all the awkward things that happen to her and would normally make her look foolish.

I don't know how I feel about Lola. I don't have a whole lot of patience with heroines who feel they need to fight the whole world, including the hero and those who want to help her. She's not a very lovable character.

This book has a surprising amount of heart. I should have known that Kingfisher is able to take an outwardly ugly and grotesque creature and give it the sweetest of human characteristics.

I really like Nava's writing. There is a sharpness, an honesty, and bite in the way she characterizes Ember. And Ember herself, I think, is a really good reflection of the way tired, angry women who have had enough feel and think. It is a painfully truthful characterization, but I'm really loving how it's handled.

The voice of Patrick is so authentic, funny, and at times poignant that, even when I'm not in the right mood to really appreciate and enjoy this book, I can objectively see just how good the characterization is.

I like that Nava gets right into the obstacles and prejudices that Native Americans face that those with white privilege simply don't get.

I'm decently surprised that Bailey was able to give the three men believable enough backstories. Elise's is a bit childish but I have to keep reminding myself that she is still quite young. Despite some passable personal growth stories, I'm still having a hard time believing the men's obsession with Elise. One of them even describes it as being fated. 🙄

This is an interesting one. While I find the instalove completely unrealistic and unrelatable, Bailey is doing a real admirable job in building out characters who have interesting backstories, and not one note bores, as I would have thought for a RH.

All the reviews about suspending one's feminism is absolutely spot-on for this book. Knowing about this author's drama a few years ago, I can see why this book is so attractive to a certain demographic.

I've never read a reverse harem. It's clearly a fantasy genre so suspension of disbelief is expected. But an immediate sexual attraction starting on chapter 2? That seems outrageous. Do all RHs need to be like this to squish essentially three love stories?

Rather slow start. The pronouns thing is interesting, and the writing, per Kingfisher, is always good. But rather boring story so far.

This is a feistier side of Matthews that we're seeing, and I love it. It's interesting to see Matthews's progression from her debut to now. You can feel her anger and rebellion in this one.

The premise of this book is good, but the execution is lacking. I don't find the characters to be interesting, or occasionally believable. The story itself is a bit boring and slow. Maybe my expectations were too high?

There are too many modernisms in this book. And it seems to get progressively so in the dialogue, the further into the story. I don't recall the first of the series having this much.

This is an interesting one. I can't say that the story is better than The Beast of Beswick, b/c it's not. Yet there is something about this bonkers story that keeps me reading. I'm not bored, yet I consciously recognize that this story is that good. Inexplicable.

I hadn't been too impressed with Raybourn's Veronica Speedwell series since the heroine is so insufferable. However, I should have put aside my bias to at least acknowledge the writing. Because the storytelling and writing is good in this one.

I'm beginning to realize that I don't necessarily dislike New Adult. It's just that I've been reading trash New Adult all this time. Now I know how a good New Adult book should read. Honestly, the characters read more mature than most late twenty-somethings.
