Finally getting a rhythm. I was not really enjoying the non-stop humor and crowded descriptions or the characters themselves but just as I was ready to quit, the writing and story has started gains flow that I’m enjoying!

Darznik is such a gifted storyteller. Her characters come to life and the glimpses into the lives of Bohemians in San Francisco are vivid and enchanting. I am in love with Darznik!

We’ve been in a rut here… pining after a widowed investigator that really keeps proving to drag all the fun out of our protagonist. Just draining. Any flickers of flirtation are put out by mr. wet towel.

“There was a closed, inbred anachronistic about the town”… I love the settings and observations as Agatha begins to suspect mysteries…

The depictions of gay women in this book really upset me. As a gay woman, it really disappoints me and I love Agatha Raisin… I’m trying to accept that the 90s were a different time and hoping it doesn’t get worse…

This is hysterical. I am in love with Agatha Raisin. Best thing I’ve read in ages!!! Can’t put it down.

Wow! I am loving Valerie Wilson Wesley’s style of writing! Wesley has a real gift for creating emotionally potent scenes and relationships. The plot is seamlessly unfolded. This story flows beautifully with exciting kernels of true life masterfully popped with each page. As for characters, I love Odessa! Her humility, courage, conviction and emotional sensitivity are so genuine and relatable.

Did I mention Aunt Phoenix is hilarious and soulful?

Solid! So excited I found Wesley! She has a brilliant writing style that brings the characters to life. I loved the girl boss villain and complexity of personalities, with flaws. So excited to start A Glimmer of Death!!

I’m loving the references to Long Island and the unfolding flirtation and starting to draw my own conclusions. Very sassy and entertaining friends round the story out and add dimension to the story.

I’m loving the portrait of this strong and loving matriarchy as well as the cozy and intimate flavor of Pilipino heritage via Tita Rosie’s Kitchen! The strong women characters add humor and dimension to the story as it unfolds.

Still shallow and crass. Not cozy or mysterious…

Already feeling frustrated by the shallowness of these characters and grating humor that revolves around sex appeal and celeb gossip.

Enjoying the sassiness of our protagonist’s friends Bee and Stephanie. I feel drawn in by Cass and intrigued by the mystery.

I’m having fun sleuthing along with Alex! I do admit that the handsome male to her rescue is reoccurring more than I’d prefer but I’m hoping that as Alex learns how to master her magic she will stick up for herself and play less of the damsel in distress role.

Yay! Witches and dogs! This niche of cozy mystery books keeps getting better…

I’m cruising through the mix of entertaining plot twists, dry wit and the dynamic between characters. Our protagonist continues to show her guts and determination plus plenty of self-assurance and commitment to promises as a teacher and sleuth. There were moments when her “I’m here to save the day” attitude came across as obnoxious but she won me, and I realize sappy is part of the Cozy deal.

Thoroughly enjoying the depictions of Irish ppl here. I feel like I’m visiting my cousins in Ireland and the dialogues are on point— witty banter, entertaining characters and a satisfying flow of mystery. I love the dynamic between the ghost and protagonist. Gesthemane is outspoken, confident and relatable. Already having fun!

My first time reading a cozy mystery genre book and I am having a blast. I really enjoy the character descriptions using ice cream references and lightheartedness. I love the voice of the narrator. Charming and fast paced. Relieved to know I can come back for more after I finish this book!

Also wish this was written post-pandemic— so many chapters seem out of touch and irrelevant now!

I love Casper ter Kuile’s natural warmth and witty perspective in the Harry Potter Sacred Text Podcast so I came expecting a similar level of meditative, heartfelt discussions in the Power of Ritual. I admit I’m not feeling as intrigued or impressed by the exploration of subject here. It’s wandering, disjointed and dull at times.

At moments lovable but currently getting a bit frustrated with the recurring white male as hero trope.

I LOVE TANA French.

I forgot. I can’t stand her style of shallow, sarcastic and irritating writing.

I’m loving Kwame Alexander’s style. Beautiful character building and entrancing prose. This is such a treat to read.

Not a fan of the way Finch pressures Violet.

Ugh I definitely started this book, was disgusted and put it down and forgot all about it before my second attempt. Remembering why I wasn’t interested now...
