DNF. The writing is excellent, as one would expect of one of the legends of SciFi, but there isn't so much a plot as a series of vignettes of existential dread. I have enough existential dread in my life; I don't find it entertaining.

I wanted to like this; truly I did. But it's trying to hard to set a particular style, and it's an annoying style. Plus, it pokes me in my squishy places. Makes me feel horrible about myself. So... DNF.

I've been told more about the ongoing status of the male protagonist's dick than I ever cared to know.

One of my co-writers in my cooperative fanfic writing circle recommended Ms. Francis, so I thought I'd give this a shot.

It took me a couple of tries to get into this, but I'm glad I persevered, because the world-building really is quite interesting. You have to squint a little bit to see the plot, but that's okay.

I make a point of reading source material as often as I can. This book is frequently cited as the source for several rumors / urban legends of UFOlogy. So far, I am convinced that Carlos Allende was a nutball.

There is some truly delightful wordplay in here. The opening scene seemed very familiar; I wonder if I read the manga somewhere?

DNF at 45%. It had just turned into a dreary, grinding, slide into an obvious plotline and resolution. Moving on....

I actually started reading this a couple of days ago, but am just getting around to updating. This volume is much more readable than Kennedy's previous outing in this universe, though I will admit that some of the scenes seem like gratuitous action tossed in to keep people reading.

Digs up too many things I'd rather remain buried in corners of my psyche. DNF.

Not badly written, but I guess I've overdosed on this universe. DNF.

Once again, E.M. Foner delivers upbeat, hopeful science fiction, which is something desperately needed these days. Yummy!

One of my favorite books. I read it every couple of years.

While there are occasional flashes of brilliance, one can tell the author was being paid by the word.

First story read. A bit straight-forward and predictable, but a nice tale, anyway.

I am admittedly not very far into the book, but it already begins to remind me of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books -- which is praise, as I enjoyed those books immensely.

Time to admit that this takes more concentration than I currently have, and temporarily put it on my DNF shelf.

Alas. True to the spirit of Lovecraft, it moves slowly and leaves a great deal to the reader's imagination.

This is starting to feel very, very familiar. Did I read it before? Maybe a teaser?

Excellent job of standing Lovecraft's tropes on their head while remaining true to the source material.
